I hate that error msg, my fav is when I'm looking at the guy, I cast a spell on him, I get the msg then he runs to my side/behind something... I think the same issue happens on the other side when the mob is held then slides across the room.. I'm sure the mob is thinking *** I was behind this pillar how did he see me..
Where am I and why am I in this hand basket.
Main Server: Orien
Main Toons: Gaarn lvl20 (4th life PM wizard) Broken on MyDDO | Jeran lvl20 (18 rang/1 monk/1 rog)
Double bump.
This remains an issue.
My gut feeling is that it is some sort of lag.
If you turn your toon and fire (a spell) quickly it can happen a lot. Whereas, if you turn and wait ~1 second there is no problem.
I find this very frustrating. Not game breaking, but game stupidifying.

Devs, can you consider just getting rid of this limitation? Would it really make casters too powerful? There's nothing more frustrating than getting the "you are not facing..." message on a triple stacked DOT when it's something that's never even left your screen.
If I where to take a wild guess, I'd say that the facing calculation to check if you can cast is done clientside and the check that causes the fizzle is caused by the delay when the server sees it as invalid. The obvious solution to this would be to move the facing check to the client completely.
This will lead to casters occasionally cast at something behind their back, but as a whole it would be much better then the continous fizzling in melee.
andddddd one of the main reason I don't enjoy playing a caster. Although, I am enjoying the Druid as a melee/caster but pre-U15 Produce Flame was a great spell and was a mainstay of my elemental damage for cleaning up trash. The damage was good vs sp spent and it would curve and seek out a mob that had moved.
Now....not so much. It hits a soft auto-targetted mob ONLY if neither you nor the mob is moving and the target reticule is lined up directly on them looking over your toons shoulder. I stood directly in front of a soft targetted vampire in the orchard, let it just attack me with neither of us moving and one Produce Flame after another just went straight up in the air.
If I right click and hard target a mob it works as before.
I am seeing more of the "You are not facing" and "Out of range" messages since U15. Really tweaks my melon and counting to 10 doesn't always help. FFS
well what bothers me if im casting any aoe like dancing ball i cant even throw it in front of me. i have to literally target the ground in front of me. that can get very annoying. So im hoping that they will look at this. i have noticed this a lot more lately since update 14/15.
I swear this has to be THE most annoying thing in DDO right now.
You are not facing..
You are not facing..
You are not facing..
I'm sorry but whoever came up with this concept should be fired on the spot. Today. Have security escort this person to the door right now. Really hate to say that but sometimes tough choices have to be made, and if its a choice between feelings hurt vs. saving the game, I choose the latter.
Yes its that bad and makes the game unplayable.
Log bugs please
facing is the lamest mechanic ever... I mostly play casters and I have lost lots of sp to that stupidity... mob moves I move it's in front of me... i bet due to lag the server thinks my facing is somewhere else... bangs! sp lost... STUPID MECHANIC... GET RID OF IT D&D has no facing!!!! read the stupid players handbook
