    Default Epic Raiyum - cryptonite?

I tried to solo Raiyum on Epic yesterday. It took a long time to get to him (I killed everything on the way - got 3 scrolls and some fragments). When I finally faced him, I knew I was in trouble when I saw the fire-shield blue he was wearing. I also had no idea hex wraith's would be on his side. I dropped a firewall just to see what would happen....it is almost useless (doesn't hurt the wraith's either). Then I died.

I would like to try again, but this time with a little better plan What hurts him on Epic?

Four people with non-dispellable cold resist boxing him in. Treat him exactly like the Abbot.

Mass Heals on him. Caster can kite the shadows, and if they feel really adventurous, toss a Black Dragon Bolt/Meteor Swarm at Raiyum every now and then. The four boxing him in melee him with their best undead beater.

heal scrols, meteor swarm, black dragon bolt, disintegrate.

Kiting him into the traps works. It's cheap and effective, for multiple meanings of "cheap"

i actually wanted to know this myself, so i headed off to google to see what i could find

    this is from the wiki:

Raiyum, the Wizard-King can be a tough boss (unless you immediately hit him with disintegrate spells). To defeat him you'll need to prepare your melees with cold resistance as he has a permanent ice shield effect. Or slay him with magic: though doing so is difficult since he is immune to all spells fourth level lower, as well as all spells that deal cold or electric damage. The only real functional spells you can use if you do this at-level are Disintegrate and Divine Punishment. On epic difficulty you could use some higher level acid/fire/healing spells as well.

i found it helpful, hope you do too

    Default Thanks

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like acid and healing hurt him best. How about light damage or has anyone tried sunburst?

I did think about trying to get him to run through the trap, but doesn't the door close two rooms behind you and seal you in - or does that drop after a little time goes by (like the lever room)?

The door only closes if he actually sees you. You can make noises around him and make him go look for the source

Very nice Sounds like I might have a chance to solo him after all. Do the hex wraiths spawn in that scenario?

Fighting a non-epic Lich first could've given you some warning about those defenses...

They will if he finds you. Watch some stealth videos on youtube and practice on other quests before using it to finish epic wiz king

With the exception of the Hex Wraiths, of course.

I agree, I usually do a mission on normal just to remind myself what to expect, but was feelin epic-y so just went for it. The funny thing is I kept thinking Raiyum was a mummy (even though I have fought him several times before) and that i was going to tear him up with fire. I was completely sober too.

They can if he spots you, or every once in a while, just summons them randomly. He'll sometimes see you when you trigger the end fight and immediately summon wraiths.

They can see through your invis. If you get a Wraith spawn, DDoor out of there as soon as possible and they'll USUALLY despawn by the time you run back up the tower. Raiyum's door also opens.

I generally prefer beatdown methods (faster, more fun), but do sneaky kiting in a heavy caster group or when short-manning (safer).

Also note that melees need to be able to reach high to-hit without relying on buffs, since he absolutely loves spamming Greater Dispel. That is along with Ottilukes, Chain Lightning, Horrid Wilting, Disintegrate, and Ghouls Touch, all with high save DC's.

Raiyum has a Mantle of Invulnerability, so only level 5 or higher spells will work. Cyclonic Blast is above mantle level, but is glitched and is treated as a level 2 spell, so don't bother with that.

I believe, but do not know for sure (I only heal eWiz), that Epic Raiyum has the same Disintegration ward that the Abbot has.
