Default Do not unleash the ioun stones

If they give a random ioun stone every 3 chain completions in the dreaming dark the following WILL happen: all ppl who know the pale lavender one and got the adventure pack will run and run it until they get one. now imagine an elite group in which at least 4, or even 6 players got one. thats 200 to 300 spell absorbtions in the best case. and 60 to 90 recharges per rest. in that case, enemy casters are not even worth a laugh anymore, u can just delete them out of the game. theres a good reason these stones drop that seldom. They already gave the ppl VERY good loot in all new adventure packs with a VERY high drop rate. that should be enough to feed even new players who get the stuff very quickly. There arent that much "old" items that are better than the new stuff anyways. that will anger everybody who bought an ioun stone for millions of pp in the auction house. and dissapoint the few who were lucky enough to find one. this would be a slab into the faces all those ddo players lucky enough to own one. and yes, a slab into my face too.

I don't think you can say that, because none of us know what the drop rate will be for the Pale Lavender stone. The less effective ones will probably dominate the rewards, with PL being very rare.

They Nerfed WoP items when they were king of the hill. There is nothing bad about them doing this. Every 3rd run you have a chance at a random ion stone OR some other objects. My feeling is the drop rate on the them won't be that great.

And just because if directly effects the value you spent, shouldn't be justification to not do something. If I sell a bloodstone on the AH for 10K plat, should everyone do that because I did it? No.

If the PLIS used up one charge per spell, then I agree that the game would be damaged by a sudden influx of Ioun Stones.

Since each spell consumes its spell level in charges (or more!), I don't see that this will be a massive problem.

This^! Enemy caster with unlimited spell points hits you for 10 5th lvl spells in a row... bye bye spell absorption. Even assuming you brought down that particular caster... oh wait in the next room there's another. Go down the hall ...another. Next room... two. Hope you weren't depending on that spell absorption, cause the shrine might be pretty far away.

Oh and in referenece to devaluing your gear... I will never agree to that point of view. If the player beside you has the same piece of equipment as you and its affecting your enjoyment of the game, well in a PVE game thats only because your allowing it to bother you.

It's not like they even recharge 50/rest, either. They have 50 total charges, but you only get back 15 each time you shrine.

Disagree, as has already been said the charges are eaten up by level up the spell not 50/day or whatever. While it is a nice item its not something that is game changing. There are certain instances I would wear them. They aren't an item I'd use in every single quest in the hopes of negating enemy casters.

    woooooh, great first post LMAO

I for one am happy that some stuff will no longer be the sole property of some grinders, some platfarmers, and the lucky few.

    NICE retort.

I don't think you should be happy though. It is surely not enough. I think you should have everything I have accumulated over the last 6 years of playing the game. Because really, that is only fair. (really wouldnt care if that happened, just think your view point is funny).

On a serious note, the game changes. No big deal.

Yay! Another one of these threads! Guess I should expect to see at least 20 more before U13 hits live and then another 50 after that...

i don't see the issue as mob casters have unlimited sp and spam spells anyways. you'll be fine for 30 seconds? then your gem is tapped, no biggie

i think i know what THEY are doing. trying to reduce the grind for things for us. i dont think having the ioun stones in a every 3 completion end reward list is actually a good idea. sure, we get a higher chance at getting these precious stones, but how long before its more common for people to have them? a better way to reduce the grind is up the percentage chance for drop rates and not just stones.

The stones only situationally useful currently. Only place its overpowered is in the PVP pit and PVP pit should not be used to judge an items power.

The Ioun is mainly used as antibeholder for fleshies. Absorbs a lot of beholder beams before its drained, but so do Silver Flame and other items way lower in ML. It is also useful against mobs you know use irresistible dance or another no save spell. Its also used in a few raids to survive an environmental aoe or banish spell.

Since its absorbs spell level not spells its around same range in power to the Mantle of the Worldshaper and Epic Phiarlan Cloak.

For example Horoth's banishment removes around 7 charges from the Pale Ioun (Ioun charges are eaten by spell level). It removes 1 charge from Mantle of Worldshaper. So should absorb 7 banishments with pale ioun a level 18 item, and 5 banishments with Worldshaper a level 5 item. Seems more than balanced to me.

Now if it was like the original Ioun that absorbed 50 spells that would be a balance issue.

haha. you think people will only have 1 PLIS?? no way, all toons will have a couple of them. Turbine wont think about the problem this will cause with caster npc's in quests until it is too late.
