Lightbulb U13 - How to Fix the Madstone Change Without Nerfing Anything

    A compromise:

1.) Just implement a separate Madstone Rage clicky (and Madstone Reaction proc if it still stacks) to use the new nerfed rage and penalties.
2.) Apply this new clicky and proc to the upgraded Madstone Boots (+6 DEX) to use this new rage and corresponding penalties.
3.) Leave the old Madstone Boots (+4 DEX) with the old Madstone Rage clickie and proc.

Conclusion: You implement this new change as an optional upgrade specifically for casters. Melee is left with the old boots to use as they see fit. No, you can't repair the damage done to characters who have already upgraded their Madstone Boots without a lot more work involved in creating a separate item. But you CAN limit this damage by still allowing melee classes to access their old Madstone Rage. Everyone is happy and the popularity of the Madstone Boots is doubled now that caster's have a great use for them!

Genius. This is a work of genius.

I got an idea. Leave them as is. They are perfect as is. Casters don't need any help

This. Do not change them at all.

I said something along this line in another post. If you WANT the new boots, put a seal and a pair of boots and 5 of x relic in the thing and make them. Leave it as an option, but don't do an auto change on existing boots.

When they make something better we always have to go through some upgrade process, but when they nerf something to high hell we always get automatically nerfed items.

OP why do you think madstone should be in the game at all. The whole item seems like a mistake by the devs and is OP for a level 14 item. What benefit does madstone actually provide to the game? The epic boots of corrision seem about right and is well epic.

Um benefit.....more hp? More dps? All good things for a melee.......this must have been a rhetorical questions since the answer was so obvious.

They could just remove the effect that makes caster not able to cast spells when madstoned. And after the madstone effect wears off give you the shaken effect and -2 to int wiz and cha for the 30 secs. But no need to change anythinng else on em really. This would make the item work for all kind of toons.

Or leave em as they are. The new effect i see no reason for really,

As is often the case though when something is not broken, the best thing to do, is nothing at all.

    ...
Madstone rage should have Luck bonus instead of morale bonus, because:
    - when you go mad you involve randomness
    - and with randomness you can be lucky

Or better, make it Madstone bonus (to be make sure that it stacks with everything else).
Just a thought, maybe Bravery bonus (stacking with Morale bonus)?

Actually there are two things on the boots:
    1) Madstone Rage
The duration is 2 minutes, and it provides a +2 bonus to strength, a +4 bonus to constitution, a +4 Natural Armor bonus to AC, a 10% enhancement bonus to attack-speed, and increases your BAB to equal your character level.
This bonus I suggest to name as Madstone bonus.
    2) Madstone Reaction
This is a hidden effect and has 15% chance of triggering. It gives the same bonuses as Madstone Rage, but +2 str and +4 Con stacks. Wiki says that it is morale bonus, but I'm not sure if that is correct.
This bonus I suggest to name as Luck bonus (I'm not sure if there is any other luck bonus to Str or Con, so it would stack)

I think both effects additionally stack with:
    Rage spell
+2 morale bonus to Strength and to Constitution, a +1 morale bonus on Will saves, and a -2 penalty to Armor Class
    and
    Barbarian Rage ability

Because the Gianthold pack is very expensive and those boots was probably the main reason why I've bought that pack. I mean that if a pack is more expensive than Vale pack then there has to be something worth the price.
