Default Menace of the Underdark FAQ

    Expansion FAQ

When can I get the expansion, and how?
We will announce the details about the sale of Menace of the Underdark as we get closer to launch.

    How much will it cost?
We will be announcing pricing details very soon!

    When is beta?
We will be hosting a Beta program to get your feedback on all the exciting new content and will announce the timing of it in the coming months.

Does this mean Eberron is “over”?
Not at all! While we will be focusing on Forgotten Realms in the near future, we do plan to add more Eberron content to DDO in the future as well.

Is the expansion a separate game than the Eberron game?
No! Menace of the Underdark is an expansion to the existing DDO service. Players will be able to continue to enjoy the Eberron content and the new Forgotten Realms content without having to install a new game client or abandon their existing friends and servers.

Will we be allowed to bring our Warforged & Artificers to Forgotten Realms?
Yes! Be sure to check out Update 13, our next update where you’ll learn more about how Eberron characters come to find themselves in Forgotten Realms!

How did you link the Eberron and Forgotten Realms setting in the game, isn’t that against the D&D rules?
We’ve worked closely with Wizards of the Coast, as well as setting creator Ed Greenwood, to carefully craft a story that leads to the linking of the two game worlds. The threat of Lolth is something that touches multiple parts of the D&D universe, and we’re excited to let DDO players take part in a story that will span both D&D settings to try and stop her!

Once we go to Forgotten Realms can our characters ever go back to Eberron?
Yes! Your characters will be able to go back and forth between Eberron and Forgotten Realms.

How will “epic” levels work? Are they different than normal character levels?
Normal character levels are now called “Heroic” levels (1-20). After the release of Menace of the Underdark, characters who’ve reached level 20 will be able to start earning experience towards their Epic Levels. Epic levels allow players to continue to advance and customize their characters in all new ways. We’ll post more previews and dev diaries for the community regarding these exciting new features.

What happens to existing “True Reincarnation” characters?
No major changes are planned. TR characters will keep their benefits and you will be able to True Reincarnate your character from level 20 and up.

Are the abilities based on reaching “level cap to 20” going to change to 25? (e.g. True Reincarnations Capstones, Completionist feat, Prestige Enhancements)
Capstones, True Reincarnations, Prestige Enhancements, and Completionist feat are all still going to be based on reaching level 20 of what is now called “Heroic” levels (Heroic levels are the levels from 1-20 prior to epic).

    Some interesting information.

As I understand it though ... the FR expansion will only be for 20th level and up? No plans to release FR content for lower level characters?

I would doubt that Turbine would release an Expasion that is..."Epic level only"

Note: The term "Epansion" versus Adventure Pack...

And To Quote Sig of DDOCast...
"Given the huge popularity of the Forgotten Realms Universe, it would be a very poor Marketing move on Turbines Part to release an "Epic Level only" Expasion Pack.
I would be willing to bet it will be Lvl's 1-25...

There will be level 16 quests in U13 that connect to the FR story line, but the expansion's quests and raids will be Epic only:

But that said, we’re taking steps to make sure that you don’t have to wait until level 20 to start getting involved in the epic storyline. It will start at level 16 with the Update 13 free adventure pack, which is the prologue to the expansion pack story and the setup for how players will eventually get to Forgotten Realms. So you don’t have to start at level 20 - you can begin more around level 15 - and will be able to get into those dungeons and start playing.

This following part is a bit interesting, although maybe not in a good way:

Some XP bonus for people buying the expansion? Some kind of "fast-track" through the Eberron content?

A quick note to those not in the know about Turbine's other big game LOTRO.

The most recent expansion featured an item that you would get on all your toons if you pre-ordered (or paid alot of TP per toon) that drastically increased xp from mob kills.

It seems likely that Turbine will have a big permanent XP boost item as part of the expansion pre-orders or as a big cost per toon otherwise. I would not be surprised to see something as high as a 40% xp boost item.

Lotro is also a standard MMO unlike DDO.

Maybe, just maybe there could be a trinket that could offer 10% maybe 15%, but as high as 40%? I'd say you are dreaming, honestly. I find it a hell of a lot easier to level here than I do there. Granted that could also be because of travel time and the farking limiting of the number of quests you can take.

Also if EPIC levels work differently, I'd expect what is standard "XP Bonus" stuff to not work on them.

edit: Also that trinket you mention. IF you pre purchased it showed up for all characters. If you did not pre purchase, you can buy it out of the store per character.

    From the release notes -
Players can now start their characters at level 7 with a new tier of Veteran Status! Veteran Status (7) can be earned by acquiring 3,000 total Favor or by purchasing the account option in the DDO Store.

This is an older post, but very much seems to partially predict the new xp tomes.

Now, will they be at all connected to the Expansion, or will they just be available in the store upon release of U13.

I would hate to buy one (or 3 for my mains with multiple remaining TR's) then get them for free as part of an Expansion Pre-Order perk.

NEW! - Uber-Veteran Status: Create new characters that start at level 20 with Tier 3 Greensteel items! Only 2995 points in the DDO Store! (Also available in-game by obtaining 1 Million Favor with The Forgotten Realms).

Actually I was thinking they could offer "Legendary Wood" A TR starting at level 4.

    Kosher.

One question though, Lesser Reincarnation: how exactly will this be affected?

So far as I'm aware, it shouldn't be, as all a Lesser allows you to do is respec your character. I don't yet know how Lesser will relate to Epic Levels, but we'll make sure that is covered in one of the dev diaries.

I'm with ya Bro. I went ahead and told her I wanted to buy it and took my lumps. My vision should clear by the time the expansion is released

    Step 1: Hide all skillets
Step 2: Distract her with something shiny
    Step 3: Buy the expansion
Step 4: Hide credit card statement
Step 5: Better get another shiny just in case.
