Default I'd love to see Stalwart / Power Surge work like Monk Stances

Given the new enhancement paths and potential capability to be a little bit both Kensai and SD, I'd like to see them be stancy.

    Yeah, some balancing required.

One of the great things about a monk is, if you invest in Fire and Earth (for instance) you can shift modes and capabilities by changing your monk stance.

I'd like Stalwart/Kensai still stack with monk, but I'd like them to be more like those than boosts/surges or PA/CE/etc.

    Yeah.

How do the monk stances differ from PA?
How do they differ from Stalwart Defensive Stance at present? Just that they aren't limited use?

I'd agree that the SD and DoS stances really don't need to have limited uses, but Power Surge and Showtime...I don't know.

The Monk stances do not lock out or otherwise flip any feat-based stances. They work with spellcasting, for instance, as their requirement is being centered.

Fighter stances could still lock out spellcasting, as their requirement is more martial.

Monk stances scale at 6/12/18 (and 1, really).

Power Surge and Showtime are very "spikey" in terms of their benefit. I wouldn't mind a balanced but always-on option.

I'm also not sure how "bad" kensai being always on would be, if at all.

I wouldn't want someone to be able to be in a Stalwart stance AND Power Surging - similar to a monk being in both Fire and Earth at the same time.

BUT ... I'd love for that super fighter who invested in both the SD and the Kensai paths to be able to switch to "tank mode" using SD when needed ... and then Kensai when they were playing DPS ... without having to reset their enhancements. If someone wants to build for that flexibility and be both an off-tank or a lower-difficulty tank AND switch to DPS, I think more than monks should have that option.
