    Default Stealer of Souls runes

I have been to Stealer of Souls just once, wiped at air (no caster in party and no healer save one healer hire helped this), but I wonder for what are those runes present in different areas good for. I have noticed some of them in the fire part on islands in the large room, and there are several in the air part. Wiki is not helpful on this one - does anyone know what purpose they serve?

They deactivate air jets and force fields so you can reach the boss at the top.

The runes in fire deactivate the barrier to the boss room.

Thank you - I wasn't the first elected to run to fire, and was knocked over very soon in air so I came to most runes being on, that's why I wondered.

In fire, there are runes all across the room that need to be hit in order for the barrier to drop to get to the final boss. In cold, there are levers which deactivate the air traps that shoot you off the side. In air, the runes deactivate air traps that will shoot you off and I believe there are barriers that they bring down as well (it's been a long time since I've been in there and I'm usually on auto-pilot ).
