shield enhancement bonus

How does the shield enhancement bonus (for example: +6 on an epic kundarak warding shield) apply to your total AC? It seems to read the same as an armor but the bonus for some reason is not applying. I used to use a +5 shield, and switching to this +6 has made no difference whatsoever. Should I even slot it with +7 in the hope that it produces a +1?

There are multiple possible reasons for this.

Difference made in Max Dex Bonuses between the two?
Different in Shield Bonuses?
etc.
It's more than just the enhancement bonus at play here. A +6 *should* give more than a +5, but there are mitigating circumstances to that rather broad statement.

Let me clarify with my exact situation then:

Comparing shields Light and Darkness (unsuppressed) and Epic Kundarak Warding shield.
Light and Darkness: +8 shield bonus, +5 enhancement. No max dex bonus. Wearing the shield produces an AC gain of 8 versus no shield (in other words, enhancement didn't apply).
Epic Kundarak Warding shield: +8 shield bonus, +6 enhancement. No max dex bonus. Wearing the shield produces and AC gain of 8 versus no shield (enhancement didn't apply).

So for a second let's just assume the shield enhancement doesn't stack with armor enhancement. That still doesn't work out because my armor is a dragontouched docent at +5 enhancement +2 reinforced plating, so the +6 should have overridden the +5 on the docent.

I have mithral body with feats and enhancements to get a max dex bonus of 11.

Yeah. They have the same "Shield Bonus", then.

The Light and Darkness is a +5 Shield, that has a +3 Starting Bonus, for +8 Total Bonus.

The Epic Kundarak Warding Shield is treated like a standard Large Shield (+2), but is a +6 Enhancement Bonus, so +8 Total Bonus.

Why does the L&D have a higher starting Shield Bonus, although both are "Large Shields"? No idea. It's a named item, that they decided should play by a different rule I guess.

Try putting on a Default +5 Steel/Mithral/Adamantine Large Shield. +7 AC bonus total.

But to make you feel better, I'll see if I can get some Sarlonian...Sarlonite... Sarlonan? To screenshot one sometime that's been augmented. Can never be too careful, the Epic tokens are a hard 3 hours to come by.

The challenges should be able to give raid tokens, as well... XD

Really though, I'll try and check around when I get back from class tonight. I think some people have made it for their tanks/arcanes.

Okay, back from class, got the Screenshot.



It also has Alchemical Shield Defense, but he says that does *not* add to the "Shield Bonus" listed under the item description. He does, however, receive +10 to AC when he equips this item.

are you by chance true neutral in alignment, and do you by chance have +5 protection slotted elsewhere on your person?

Issue resolved already. The shield bonuses between the two are the same and that shield bonus is the total AC gain - it includes the enhancement bonus.

And yes i'm true neutral, and I have +6 protection on my epic ring of the silver concord
