    Default I surrender....

The arcanes are right... melee DPS really isn't needed. Now I know, I'm a melee only player and I had a difficult time coming to grips with this factoid. But after several raids/quests later I think I'm slowly beginning to realize what everyone else already realizes....melees are effectively outgunned in the damage department.

What melees are good at and are probably only good at right now is tanking. Especially, after the PrE's got fixed and a few nice shields/weapons came out. But yah, Arcanes win in damage.

Not to disappoint you, but I saw a FvS dot-tank hard LoB the other day, pretty successfully.

So what ? Play the game as you want. The world is quite large enough for us all.

Surrender has always been the only option, really. We all just need to delete our melee toons and roll casters.

    Loot puller?

When I was soloing ADQ to get my Torc, I usualy posted for melee pullers pikers.
Torc is mine if you pull, anything else I pull is yours (tomes included)
I'd let them die while I focus on DoT tank Lailat. They seemed happy with My kindness.

You will find that I am kind. Unlike the cruel LFMs, who demanded that you Tank...I require only that you pike!
    I don't care...

    Dear Melee,

We arcanes/divines/artificers feel that you do still play an important role. As such, please make sure to break the boxes for xp and to hit the levers and possibly int/wis/cha runes if your stats happen to be high enough.

    Thanks,
    The Leadership

*Edit*: Oops that was supposed to be addressed to my artificer's dog. Sorry Melees.

you are ofcourse correct - the masses are never wrong you know.

The deep irony for me tho as a primary caster player is all those years of being told to sit back and buff, dont cast offensive spells and be a good little wizard. I ignored them then, and I ignore them now. I do buff on reasonable request or as i deem necessary, but im no ones pet!

Unlike many folks I think all the spell pass did was open peoples eyes, casters ALWAYS had the power to dominate, sure we dont have 'sustained damage' but neither do meles - newsflash - your blue bars are and always have been on the cleric. All it took for a caster to have some sustainable low end function is a feat or 2 and not going 18 casting stat 18 con. now theres SLA's making that even easier.

Your right about tanking tho, and when things start getitng dispelled or the party is taken by surprise you can bet your bottom dollar its the fighters/barbs that react fastest because they can cope much beter *** less preperation.

Interesting fact for you: The fastest ever shroud ive been a part of was at lvl cap 16, all arcane run. one rounders were very rare back then.. very rare.

Honestly its the opinon of the crowd, and theres a saying that the IQ of a mob is inversly proportional to its size. Im still seeing well played meles tearing things up unassisted, just as I used to see well played casters doing the same.

    What he said.

I'd rather live as a lion for a day, than 100 years as a sheep. There will always be room for melee in ddo.

    You know what's funny though?

In the fastest eLoB completion that was done on Khyber (19 minutes), no caster damage was used. Only melee dps. Fun fact...

Melees do fine damage. Just because something isn't optimal doesn't mean you shouldn't play it or it has no place in a party. Sure, a group of all necromancers will never die and do an insane amount of damage, but it's the diversity and sheer "do whatever the hell you want" attitude of this game that makes it fun.

From my perspective, and I believe this holds true for most of the game, this game was designed for a group of friends to be able to play whatever they want together and not be forced to play certain things to get by. It is one of the draws this game has for me. Yeah spell damage might be at the high end of things, but guess what, the game is more fun if you don't care what is better than everything else and just play what you like playing.

On the other hand if you only like playing the strongest thing around, then no matter how it is designed, the devs will always be picking your character for you... in any game.

That being said, everyone has a bit of a competitive side to them, and it is better for the community and the game if players don't feel gimp when they play certain classes.

I have some Ideas for melee improvement, but I'm gonna save them for a Dev run lets talk thread.

Melee do not do "fine" damage. Unless you are talking about monks and well geared self sufficient builds. Because they require a healing dedicated cleric.

Arcanes do equal or more damage to melees and require no or very little healing from a second character.
Wherever you went - here you are.
