    Default Visual C++ download

    Why, every time I launch DDO, does it download MS VC++ SP1 2005?

    Is there a way to stop this happening every time?

    If you have a 64 bit windows version, download and install manually the 64 bit SP from microsoft.

    Thanks for the suggestions, though after doing both the issue remains. It is not a terrible problem, just makes initial loading slower.

    Thanks in advance for any other ideas!

    Usually what's happening is the launcher's not being allowed to 'flag' those installs as being checked and completed (e.g. look to ensure it's there, if not download and install it then edit its own log files to say "this was done/available" for later launches).

    These steps should fix that (it's a variation on run as admin) but remember that you only want to use 'Run as admin' in this one instance because of the issue, otherwise doing so always can cause issues with how the game functions (also make sure you use the shortcut to turbineinvoker not launcher on Win7/Vista, steps here detail making a desktop shortcut to this file manually)

    1. Click on the Windows "Start" button and choose "Computer" from the list
    2. In there double-click on your C: drive (may display as "Local Disk C")
    3. Double-click on "Program Files" (note: if you see "Program Files (x86)" double-click on that one instead)
    4. In that folder double-click on the "Turbine" folder and then the "Dungeons & Dragons Online" folder (it might be "DDO Unlimited" if its a newer install)
    5. In that folder look for "TurbineRegisterGDF.exe" (it may only display as "TurbineRegisterGDF") and when you find it right-click it and choose "Run as Administrator".
    6. Nothing will look like it's happening just the Windows 'wait' cursor should come up for a bit and then revert to normal.
    7. Once it does then find "TurbineInvoker" (it'll list as an application and has the red DDO 'shield' for an icon) and right-click it and choose "Run as Administrator" as well

    What this should do is ensure that the game launcher is being allowed to make the necessary edits it needs to mark the pre-requisite software installs as having been completed (and should launch those installers with inherited permissions) so that they only perform the once.
