    Default DDO freezes after launcher

After I enter my username and password in the launcher, DDO will not load. It either freezes the entire operating system just as the progress bar reaches full on the character selector or before the actual game is loaded. Causing me to have to do a hard reset to my tower.

This happened 6 time over the past 4 hours. I cannot get past the final loading screen before the game.

    Things I have tried,

Shutdown using shutdown commands in XP after returning from the hard reset.
Closed other programs that may have been running to cut down on CPU usage
Forced DDO to re-fetch and re-apply the last update

I have never had problems connecting or with my firewall. My internet connection is as strong as it ever is tonight.

Is my DDO program corrupted? And is the only solution downloading yet another copy of the setup files?

    Thoughts?

Is what you are saying, that after you pick your user name and server, the machine freezes at different places each time?

In my experience, such freezes tend to occur at the "same place" if due to a piece of software, so that would point to something underlying such as a hardware driver, rather than the DDO software itself. It certainly would not indicate a connection problem (although an issue with connection-related software drivers is always possible...)

Have you installed or reconfigured new video hardware or drivers, or audio hardware or drivers recently?

Have you done anything to your PC recently?

Do you run any other applications that use video extensively or use lots of memory (in case its a memory hardware problem)?

Have you tried "repair graphics" (launcher main page, down arrow, options) just in case resetting to default video options avoids or helps detect the problem?

I would run a virus/makware scan, then I'd post the DXDIAG report here in the forum so those more experienced with graphics and audio hardware.

Are you always selecting the same character?

You could try nuking your install by deleting DDO and Pando Media Booster. Then redownloading and installing. Make sure you back up your screenshots.
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

If it is the same character that has this issue but your others don't, sounds like game corruption to me. Happened to a friend of mine also. He didn't end up believing me until he tried it on a different computer and didn't have issues.

Solution would be to restore from backup, or to re install.
