Default Find Traps spell may not be useless after all?

From a pure cleric standpoint that is. Read a post the other day about being able to boost search skill above 40 with this spell, it peaked my interest so I decided to look into it, see if can work in epics.

On a L20 cleric, int is obviously very low (mine is base 8):

    Search skill:
+3 int (base 8, +6 int, +2 tome, +2 exceptional from epic spyglass)
    +20 competence (epic spyglass)
    +4 morale (GH)
    +10 insight (find traps spell)
+ 1 luck (prayer, or house P guild buff)
+ 5 action (human skill boost IV)
    =====================
    44 search

Crafting +5 int skill gear: 49
    House D Fox Skill pot +3: 52
Is ~52 search good enough for epic? Are there any other ways to boost search skill that I'm missing?

I'm pretty that you can only "find" a trap with a DC higher than 20 if you have a single level in Rogue or Artificer. But don't quote me on that until there's confirmation.

Edit : At the very least, the Wiki's Entry for Search seems to agree.

The find trap spell is supposed to give you that very ability without splashing rogue or arty, at the same time as giving you a small bonus to your search score.

However, being able to search a trap without being to disarm it is... Pointless. And you can't disarm without splashing rogue/arty.

My 17/1/2 cleric/fighter/rogue loves the find trap spell. Since build points are tight on a 28pt build being able to skimp on the search-skill (which is cross-class for most of the lvls) is a wonderful boon.

And yes, such a cleric can find and disable almost all the traps in the game, both leveling and epics. Makes for a very strong soloing toon, esp for someone that is not overflowing with twink gear (which is probably true for most 28pt builds).

Once I TR'd her into a 34pt build with the same split she successfully disabled the infamous Cabal trap on elite (lousy trash chest really not worth the hassle).

It's used more as a "oh, poo poo - everyone top off HPs with your cure potions...this is going to be a bumpy ride!" sort of thing.

But honestly, I don't think most parties bother being that careful, or slowing down that much.

    Thumbs up

I used Find Traps a lot on my 18 Favored Soul/2 Rogue. I put less points into search and maxed out disable and was still able to find 99% of traps. It works great for some builds.

It doesn't happen often, but I've been in situations where the rogue/arti for whatever reason, has trouble finding the trap and everyone stands around with a blank look on their face. In those situations, this ability, (if it's high enough) would come in handy.

Point is, it's a nice bonus ability for a cleric to find a traps without sacrificing anything!

Very useful spell, even on pures.

Use this in VoD on my Cleric to help the trapper disable faster, so he can get back to fighting. Less time disabling = More DPS. And since I'm not needed for healing (two divines in 99% of cases, so one divine can handle the healing for the orthons) it's not costing me anything to do it. 15 SP, plus a temporary gear swap. Whoopee.

Not quite at the level of spotting in Epics, but if I had the extra 2 INT, I would have put 10 points into Spot (cross-class) for low to mid 50's. That gives a lot of epic spots.

BYOH. Know it, abide by it, or don't mess with those who do.
