Hey Devs! Let's give Warpriests and Eldritch Knights some loving, kay? :<
I like it because of the survivability. If built right, they can be a very enjoyable class to play.
Do other classes do more DPS? yes...well, most of them in fact.
Are other classes able to solo better. Yes.
Are other classes able to "survive" better? Yeah.
But a paladin can do a combination of all of those things....and keep on swinging and not really worry to much about mana or resources. The only gripe I have with them is their can be a little lackluster in epics because of the inflated hit points and bad guys stupid to hit numbers.

Glorious stand, + 300% heal amp.
That hasn't be my experience. Several times, things have gone sideways and I've kept myself up and finished the raid or section of the raid we were in, all on the strengths of the paladin. I have a thread up somewhere about doing this in ToD 2 (maybe you were referring to that specifically). I've had some VoD runs where I did this, or almost pulled out the win. One time, it was me tanking, self-healing, continuing to DPS Sulu, through bats, and throwing raises and LoH to the healers, who kept managing to die anyway. I could have finished out the raid, except that I ran out of Remove Curse potions. I've since added that to my prepared spell list.
Many times while raiding or questing, I've been able to hold aggro on something nasty and heal myself while the party focuses on something else. It means being able to go in short on healers, or deal with a DC'ed or dead healer. I've run ToD on hard with no divine healers, a WF tank and 3 arcanes, where I tanked Sulu and healed myself and the WF got Recon'ed on Horoth.
Sure, it's not always going to work out that way, but that's more to do with bad luck than anything else--2 or 3 cursed wounds from Sulu in a row is a bad time for anybody, but especially with only 1 healer, whether that is you or someone else.
Stalwarts are slightly better than Defenders of Siberys right now, in part because saves are largely irrelevant. If they become more important (and they can't be completely discounted in stuff like LoB), the two will be a lot closer.Edit: to clarify, I'm hardly saying that Paladins don't have their place, it's just not one that I prefer. For example, compare DoS and SD:
General questing: DoS is superior for being more self sufficient and better self-healing.
Raiding: SD makes a better tank, especially if both are around.
Epics: either way you're generally just another misc. DPS unless you happen to be in an epic that needs a Tank, and then SD comes out ahead.
The other big issue is with feats--SDs have better access to HP, DPS, Intimidate and the shield specialization stuff than paladins do, but they don't get all of it, and don't end up way ahead in most cases. DoS could use a boost in this regard. DoS is a better tank in a weaker or less ideal party most of the time, as the healing abilities will end up being more important than the better intimidate on the SD...at least potentially. Being able to LoH a healer that got stunned or tripped or something can be the difference between success and failure.
I don't dislike SDs, I just like paladins much better.
