Angry Give rangers our pets back!

With the release of the Artificer, Turbine has shown they can program the pet AI. Rangers, even with dual weapon and bow skills are Underpowered. Give us back our cool pets from PnP or make summoned Ranger animals act like Arty pets. Please Turbine! Rangers need a viable reason to keep fighting after the artificer gets it crazy crossbow skills!

It has been asked for many times, I still have hope Turbine will add them, but I am not holding my breath.

No, pleased for the love of all that is holy do not waste any ranger "love" on something as horrible as the artificer pets.

Not just a "no," but a "HELL NO" to this.

Yep Rangers should have pets. Able to be customized and even more than that chosen forms. Wolf, Bear, Big Cat, etc.

and a few new spells as well.

Arrow Storm: Short Duration, long cooldown, fire arrows in a cone catching targets within the cone as if each was shot by an arrow. make the effect last 6sec +1 sec per 2 Caster Levels.

Blade Storm: medium duration, increase melee Double Strike proc similar to Paladin Zeal.

Sniper Shot: Increase Point Blank Shot range by 2m per Caster Level.

Nature's Favor: Target Animal gains a Luck bonus on Attack and Damage rolls equal to 1/3 caster level

Foebane: gain an additional 2d6 bane damage on attacks against Favored enemies

Magic Fang: Target Creature's Natural Weapons gain a +1 Enhancement Bonus
magic Fang, Greater: Target Creature's Natural Weapons gain a +1 Enhancement Bonus per 4 Caster levels.

    and a new Capstone

Hunter: Gain an additional +2 on Hide, Move Silently and Favored Enemy Bonuses. Additionally gain access to the following active ability.

Quarry: Duration 30 sec. Cooldown 2 minutes. The target of this ability becomes the Ranger's Favored Enemy. The Favored Enemy benefits apply in full and for the duration the SPECIFIC creature (not type) is treated as a Favored Enemy. If the target so selected is already a Favored Enemy then critical hits against said creature are treated as having a +1 Multiplier.

ie If the Ranger has Favored Enemy Evil Outsiders and is wielding dual Khopesh and targets Harry with this ability all criticals that successfully confirm against Harry by said ranger with said khopeshes would have critical multipliers of x4 instead of x3.

Rangers are not, nor have they ever been a "pet class" either in DDO or P&P. If you look at the quality of pet they're actually able to befriend, then you should know that the intention of the pnp mechanic was to give them utility pets like a hawk for scouting or dog for tracking down a mark. The giant cat that mauls things to death belong to the druid - not the ranger, and even then it belongs to a non-traveling druid. Not an adventuring druid.

I think this "Ranger = Pets" belief comes primarily from the Drizzt series. Gwen was summoned magical beast with humanoid-level intelligence. She was not a wild critter that followed a dark elf home after being fed a few snacks.

I like the way Pathfinder has Ranger Animal Companion.

Druid level -3 and they gain the benefits of the rangers Favored Enemies and Favored Terrain (favored terrain of course is not in DDO nor original 3.5... unless you count Horizon Walker)

I do think the Favored Enemy bonuses should apply to the Companion as well though. There could be some really nifty Enhancements that could be Ranger Specific associated with a Pet.

Perhaps even Pet specific coordinated attacks as Enhancements or some such

This. Ranger pets are for flavor, they're very gimp. They might add a small bit of utility, but they're not going to do anything to move ranger out of last place power-wise.

Default Ranger Pets and Wizards Familiar

If the Ranger gets their pets do Wizards get their Familiars? Where's my Rat to spy ahead of me?

Rangers were once a decent pure class. Turbine nerfed them pretty heavily with the U5 combat changes. They not only lost power relative to where they used to be (duh its a nerf) but they lost power relative to the power loss other classes experienced during those changes.

If giving them a pet similar to artificer is the move that they choose to make in order to make up the difference, I will TR my ranger into something else. The AI in this game can be strangled with a cordless phone. Having to rely on it to account for class power is unacceptable.

While Id like to see animal companions, I dont want to see a scenario where they are provided, and then rangers are ignored again for another 2 years.

Fine if you don't want the pets because they have "stupid AI", just give pets an assist master mode where they will give you buffs to that pet type's general abilities (Bear would do +2 con and a bonus to fort save, cat would do +stealth, all 1 hand weapons finesse, ect). Buffs go to ranger.

I love the idea of giving Rangers a buff under the guise of a 'pet.' Splatterfart is 100% correct, outside of very specific Prestige Classes (Beastmaster?), ranger pets were utility. So, give us utility pets: Dog gives +2 to listen, Cat gives +2 to Move Silently, etc. Make them upgradeable in both appearance and ability either for free or through Enhancements (Dog becomes Wolf, Cat becomes... Bigger Cat).

I'm not the most creative person, so don't think that I'm pitching "+2 stat boosts" in particular; feel free in insert your own ideas for a non-combat utility pet.
Bronies: For those who get it, no explanation is needed; for those who don't, none will do.

I'm a big fan of "don't bother with this fluff-nonsense and give rangers a real buff"

Personally I'm the exact opposite. The fluff is the only reason that I'm here. I could have played WoW or AoC but I love me some D&D, so I chose this game over those. I'm not contradicting the "give rangers a real buff" portion of your post, I'm just saying that if they can do it in the form of utility pets then that would be awesome.

But then I'm also the kind of guy who can't stand it when people name their Fantasy Football teams something like "Over the Dwayne Bowe" or "Blood Bath and Beyond" - sure it's cute and clever, but it ruins my illusion that it is a real football team. And our Blood Bowl league (tabletop, not video game) has a rule that all players must be named and those names must be realistic and unique. So yeah, I may go overboard a bit with my fluff-obsession.

I don't want any grey-matter wasted on something this useless. The arti-dogs are worse than useless, they actually cause harm.

    Hell no.

    Yes please.

But.... Rgr pets are only half the HD of Arty (and Druid) pets.
less than that for all the multiclassed Rgrs out there.

Do not breath fire and cannot wear docents and modules.

I think many people will actually be disapppointed by them.
I gave up a life of farming to become an Adventurer.

Indeed. In PNP unless totally abused (like Supermount) they are pretty much useless.
Ghallanda - now with fewer alts and more ghostbane
