Although I have not tried so myself, the Eternal Rest handwraps from catacombs and Devotion handwraps from Deleras won't work because they are named handwraps. I would settle for silver threaded handwraps if the Eternal Rest somehow was allowed to be deconstructed.
There are two specific handwraps I am aiming for:
+5 roaring of +5 sneak attack - I want this one to have the flametouched threaded for general dr purposes. These handwrap synergize with defender's improved evasion/tripping enhancements very well.
+5 metalline of aligned - Boss beater. I can't justify spending the mats and plat for my defender to have good boss beaters. Also, inventory space and banking slots are tight on my artificer to carry different modules.
Why worry about boss beaters? Most bosses you'll either be asked to put the pet away, or have it die rapidly to some sort of AoE/environmental damage/adds.
Epic Blademark's Docent and +5 Telekinetic Module of Staggering Blow would be a good CC set. It's too bad you can't convert named wraps, because the Unstable Wraps would make a nice module.
It is a very cheap boss beater. No real loss and no real worries.
As you have stated, the defender will not very helpful during most boss fights, but there are still some fights where I can use the defender, like beating on Sulu during a ToD run.
My defender, which does have the Epic Blademark Docent, is specialized for survivability and tripping. Improved evasion requires the dexterity enhancement line, distraction line, and avoidance line. I maxed out the tripping line for better trips, hitpoints line, and the sneak attack/damage lines for better damage and to-hit. The sneak attack/damage line along with the sneak attack on the handwraps synergizes well with the required distraction line. My defender's relfex will be 30+ when I use GH scrolls and a dexterity wand.
Although I did consider Telekinetic and Staggering blow at one point, I found them very unappealing due to their very low chance to proc (5% each on a defender) and low saves (around 17 dc for both). Roaring, however, has a 25 will save check, chance to proc on each hit, and gives -2 to skills/saves/to-hit for a better trip for my defender and spells/runearms that I use. The real negative to roaring is that it is a fear effect.
I also enjoy the fact that roaring somewhat fits a dog companion, even though growling/barking would be more accurate.
The effect "aligned" basically adds good, evil, lawful, chaotic to your wrap. So no need to use flametouched iron wraps for the latter one.
Also keep in mind that roaring produces a fear effect. Any mob with fear immunity (which also includes entire shavarath) should be unaffected by it.
