    Default 32 WF Archmage Elementalist

    Hey guys,

I made this level 4 (veteran status) WF Wizard and am loving him so far.

I want him to be a very damage oriented caster, with only minimal CC spells and a moderate range of useful buffs. For CC, I think I am going to stick almost exclusively to web as it allows me to ignore spell penetration feats, items, and enhancements.

I will be going all the way up Archmage for extra DCs and Spellpoints, and secondary in Conjuration. I only plan on taking Grease, Web, and Magic Missiles as spell like abilities. The rest of the evocation spell-likes simply didn't seem worth the spell points and AP to me. Would you all agree? This will give me a reliable CC move (web + heighten + quicken for 3 SP) and a reliable cheap damage move if I need to be conservative (Magic Missile + Empower + Maximize + Quicken for 1 SP).

For buffs, I want the usual range of useful ones like Detect Secret Doors, Jump, Haste, Blur ect., but will probably only carry the essentials like those to make room for a broader range of damage spells.

For damage, I really would like have this guy mix and use all the different elements. I like the idea of a broad range of spells to choose from, and want to exploit any weakness enemies have. For instance, switching between Fort based saves or Reflex based saves depending on the target (tough but slow barbarian, or quick but weak rogue). I want to exploit vulnerabilities like using Fire on Ice Reavers, or Disintegrate on Clay Golems and Oozes. Because of this I plan to diversify my enhancements to damage spells and am thinking I will ignore Crit completely to save gear slots and AP. Doing this I should still be able to maintain solid, steady damage, but lack the min/max dps and burst potential of crits.

All this being said, I was wondering if anyone could make a rough character idea based on this to see how it compares to what I did. He should be Warforged pure Wizard and an Archmage, other than that I'de love to see and compare your versions to what I have made and plan to do. Thanks!

Being that you want to have access to a broad range of spells for damage, there's a few key things you're going to want to get your hands on at some point in your character's life:

-Arcane/greater arcane lore (elfcrafted docent can become available as soon as you can make your way through gianthold rares; in the later levels you can add arcane lore to a reign of madness docent pretty easily); this will ensure that you've always got some boosted crit rates/damage no matter what spell you're throwing at the enemy
-Major lore items for all the elements to make sure whatever primary element the situation calls for is boosted very well
-Superior potency as high as you can get (6 is the highest you'll find on random loot), to ensure that your low-cost spells do as much damage as you can get out of them
-Superior [insert elemental damage type] items to go along with the major lore ones for scenarios when a particular element is especially effective; the level 16/20 cannith challenge gear is fantastic for this (though being warforged there's no glaciation option from there)

You might also consider getting the infused chaos docent from reign of madness, as it would PERFECTLY fit what you're trying to accomplish. It increases caster level on all evocation spells by +1, has a chance of increasing elemental damage by 75% for 30 seconds when casting elemental spells, can be upgraded to have arcane lore, and its only downside is -30 max SP.

    Featwise, I would recommend:
-Toughness (since no one should ever be without it)
-Mental toughness (only for archmage prereq; I really wish it wasn't required for the prestige line)
-Spell focus and greater spell focus: evocation (higher DC on your elemental spells will be helpful)
-Spell focus conjuration in the late levels (for access to web SLA)
-Maximize, empower, heighten, quicken, extend, and enlarge
-Insightful reflexes (a real life saver)

    Enhancementwise, I would recommend:
    -Elemental lines, obviously
-One point in repair manipulation (+20% healing on reconstruct is well worth the 1 AP)
-Archmage 1-5 (obviously with all of its prereqs)
-Spell mastery evocation 1 and 2 (again, extra DC on your spells is always handy)
    -Secondary spell mastery conjuration + grease/web SLA's
    -Racial toughness 2
I would stay away from the magic missile SLA after about level 13, as that AP and 50 SP could be put to better use elsewhere; I'd highly recommend investing some points into efficient empower/maximize. Also, it costs 2 SP, not 1, by the way; the descriptions haven't been properly updated on a lot of the SLA's.

Aside from that, another option you could consider once you hit level 20 and have acquired a few select pieces of gear (namely efficient metamagic empower/maximize 2), you could consider dropping the archmage enhancements and invest your AP into maxing out the efficient empower/maximize lines. At level 20, with those enhancement lines (and the capstone enhancement) and the gear, it will cost a mere 18 SP to add maximize and empower to your spells. This might even be further reduced with the new alchemist's lore set; I haven't looked into whether or not the set bonus from that stacks with efficient meta items, but if so, that would bring the meta cost to only +14 SP!
