Default Help with Monk Tank :)

Im thinking of trying to roll a Monk that will be the main "tank" of an all WF group. This build looks very nice, but I have a few questions.

    Monk the Metaru

    http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=264340

    1. Is this build still relevant?

    2. Can he get his HP's high enough to tank without top notch AC?

    3. With such a low Wisdom, wont the ToD be fairly ineffective?
I was under the impression that its 10 +monk level + wisdom modifier. Which would put the DC at around
30 or 31 sounds a bit low to me for epic and end game

    4. Do you prefer blonds or brunettes?

    5. Can this build really be counted on to grab and keep aggro and survive the "big boys", ; "Keep" being the key
    word.

    6. Is there any other builds for "tank" Monks out there that are good in the " tank" role?

Love the look of it but I'd hate to roll one up and then fail when trying to keep aggro, or worse not be able to survive the onslaught of the boss's aggro. Thank all

    hey bigD,
penciling out a few warforged monk tank ideas myself. one is only couple posts away from yours titled stalwart ninja. Possible to drop weap foc + weap spec + monk PL for 66 more HP if DPS isnt so much a concern as maximum avail HPs (at cap if a dedicated raid tank)

Earth stance has a 70% threat increase. You would have to try to lose aggro in it. Earth strikes are no longer obviously dominant since auto-crit was removed from the game, but they are still good.

For a Warforged especially, it is tempting to stay in Fire stance for the 25% healing amp increase, but look at it this way: a Healing Amp set of DT gives you 10% * 20% = 32% healing amp, an Incite set gives you either 45% or 51% threat, depending on how threat stacks. Your set-up would have 25% amp 51% threat in Fire or 32% amp 70% threat (and a free Sovereign slot) in Earth... so go with Earth.

ToD will be less effective with low Wisdom, but not outright ineffective, because the save is only for half and there is no Evasion for Fortitude saves. Additionally, with Improved Sunder you will fairly quickly decrease the target's Fortitude save by 15, dramatically increasing your ToD effectiveness, which brings me to my next point: fit in Improved Sunder.

look up the metaru build: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=264340

it hasnt been updated in awhile, but its still solid and a good base build. primarily dump the elemental weakness strikes and pump healing amp. its a bit gear intensive, but it can certainly tank. i was able to tank VoD and sully tank ToD pre earth stance incite changes, even with geared melees in the group. the only thing holding me back from horoth tanking was the lack of exceptional CON items and a TR to put more build points in CON.

its a really fun build. it is a bit slow starting out, but once you get some gear under your belt it really starts to shine.

    1. with some modifications yes.

    2. yes easily, with earthstance now giving extra DR it's a better tank than it used to be.

    3. this is where i'd make a modification, if you read the thread alot of people state he should drop str to 16 and boost wisdom by 6 points, I'm one of the advocates of doing that.

    4. option c redheads.

    5. in earth stance you'd only lose agro to a frenzying barb wearing full incite gear. (ie a full ******)

    6. you could look at the Emerald 2.0 and make a few modifications to make up for w/f instead of helf, It is a nice mostly monk ac tank.

    Or, to elaborate:

Make a Warforged Variant of this build, but use the Dragon touched Docent instead with +5 Resistance | +5 Protection | Earthen Guard. When Tanking, use an Epic Staff of Nat Gann (Gets you the +4 Dodge Bonus to AC like the Icy Raiments) when Tanking.

You will just need to change around the enhancements a little bit.

OK, you said you're gonna be in a static all-WF party, so I'm presuming there will always be an arcane around to keep you Repaired and thus you don't need any healing amp.

That said, here's my take on a WF dark monk hate-tank:

The idea is to be able to bounce between GM Wind for DPS (10% double-strike) and GM Earth for tanking (hate bonus, +CON). I tried to find a good compromise between DPS, HPs, AC, tactics DCs, and threat bonuses (WF + GM Earth stance). On a TR put the extra pts into CON or WIS.
