    Default Deepwood Ninja . . .

I was trying to think of a fun flavor build that would have a unique play-style, decent playability, & class/PRE synergy.

Class: I came up with 12 levels of Zen Archery Ninja Monk paired with 6 levels of Ranger Deepwood Sniper. I would have two levels to spare, should I triple class splashing in two levels of something else, or pump up either side?

Race: I was thinking about Half-Elf with a rogue dille. Human or Elf seem workable as well, the former adds a feat, while the later adds +Bow enhancements.

Has anyone built anything like this already? If so how did you like it?

You're almost there. Swap from Deepwood Sniper PrE to Arcane Archer PrE (accessed through half-elf race so you can max it out at level 20) and you have the flavour build of the month: 10k stars Archer.

2 fighter is usually used to round off the build with 2 extra feats but rogue is possible too for UMD and Wand and Scroll Mastery I.

I cross referenced abilities and . . . my mind was blown. I could see how this could be quite practical.

Do people usually flip it to 12 Ranger 6 monk? It seems that may be better for the imbue abilities.

You don't need any ranger levels at all to get the best imbue ability: slayer arrows as you can get it for just being halfelf (and having the relevant feats etc).

12 monk is better as there are more options for generating Ki though I did a write up on a 12 ranger build as it is perhaps more friendly for a first life/low gear character: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=351118

Check my sig, yo. I made the build before the 10k stars change so it's not AA.

Another class with synergy is Artificer. Taking it early helps get into groups, full trapping and UMD, and use of crossbows while leveling. While the crossbow doesn't seem like much, it's a life saver before you have Manyshot/10K. My sig has a link to my diary on lvling a 8 Arty/6 Ranger/6 Monk. It's a blast, and adds even more flexibility to an already flexible build.

    My 2cp
http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=353854 A slightly different kind of Ranger. Also, my current main.

I love the AA/Ninja and I just rolled one up.

I haven't rolled up the Deepwood Sniper version yet, but I am still thinking of trying it for my permadeath character slot where firing from stealth will be a huge boon. I would be looking at +6d6 sneak attack from Rogue Dille/Ninja and Improved Critical hits from stealth with the sniper Pre.

Anyone know if the Sniper hit improvement to critical would stack with the feat ranged improve critical?

Sniper shot's still borked as far as I know - It doesn't hold stealth.

Deepwood Sniper is the PrE most in need of work - Fix tier 1 and add minimum Tier 2 please Devs.

    Default concept sounds interesting...

I would like to give this a try, could you post the build?

Sadly I did not end up making the Deepwood sniper. When I found out that sniper shot was bugged and did not allow you to retain stealth it became concept breaking.

I did however create the Arcane Archer Ranger/Monk I ended up using the build below.

Yeah i considered this build my self till I realized how far behind deep wood is compared to arcane archer. There was no way it could add on about +25 damage per shot at end game so I decided not to. But then again it was tempting. The bow of sinew in mountain stance using sniper shots would be nice, x6 crit mult on a 19,20 roll and x4 on a crit range of 18-14 I think it was but the big take back is only every 10 seconds. yech. thats a big neg to damage there. Not to mention any character that uses a bow has to split dex or wisdom with strength so that cuts back on the strength bonus to crits. However another advantage is increased sneak attack range but then again if you get their agro I don't think there are many ways other than bluff to get sneak attack at a distance unlike for melee characters.

when will they if ever fix the deepwood line I have no idea but they need to rehaul the idea of a shot every 10 seconds. And give it a little more life than a 6th level tier 1.

You did forget one fun benefit, +10 point blank range, almost double PB shot range + manyshot + 10k arrows could be fun.

If you compare Deepwood's full line of benefits to AA's full line there is no contest, AA wins by a long shot.
If you go for Deepwood Sniper at 4 AP, vs AA at full power (how many AP does that use?), it may still be a cost effective secondary PRE.

Deepwood may still be a reasonable 2nd PRE for a ninja . . . if they fix the stealth firing. Heck I may roll one up just for the experience.

I just realized the summon wolf would be like having a ninja dog . . . a highly expendable one but fun flavor/cannon fodder none the less.
