A delicate situation, indeed. I have joined parties like this where the party leader was only chatting in text, while I am typically very vocal. But, never to the point of disregarding party chat, or trying to usurp the party leader.

In fact, I will often say in voice chat, "We could do it this way, but ultimately, it's up to the party leader. What say you, party leader?" to defer leadership back to the proper place.

Still - I feel that leading groups is much much easier done (not to mention following a party leader) when the party leader uses his/her mic.

Default Thank you for your post

I am very Guilty of this and because of your post I am changing the way I run things. For now on as long as the person knows the quest they don't need sound also if me and my guildies are getting carried away i will just tell peeps go ahead and take off sound and i will type anything that is needed. My guild is very socail and I can totally understand to a pug our convo's might be extremely annoying and maybe childish at times.
I am changing the way I lead groups because of this post I hope others do to because this is a game that some people Pay good money to enjoy. My suggestion to people who join these groups if its bothering you that much best just to drop group. i think the ignoring thing is a bit much considering i know when I join other peoples parties I don't use mic at all. Then again their choice '

Great post man and great advice love it

If you don't like to socialize in a MULTIPLAYER social game, .... ya... lol

I can understand if people are talking about stuff which u don't agree with(religion, or diplomatics) or are rude, or are just screaming kiddies, but really, socializing bothers you?

I don't use voice chat to speak, I do listen to it at all times tho in a party unless it's someone whose opinion simply does not matter like the f'in drunk ranger we had in party doing a hard GP and Sins the other night.

He wasn't the leader and was in no state to say anything useful so he got squelched........some quests tho are almost not doable unless you have a leader using voice chat.

i generally find the best use of voice chat is to broadcast parry grip songs or "kobald still hates you" messages to the rest of the group.

nom nom nom song is one of the best songs to make your standaed pugs ears bleed

If I ever used voice I'd probably end up banned and/or on lots of squelch lists for all the swearing that happens at the screen mid raid XD

I understand your sentiment Veriden, but if the post says "Have voice" then you should have it. If you don't want to use it, no big deal, just start your own group and proceed in silence. I personally don't give a rip about voice if a player knows what they are doing, but what I DO give a rip about is people ignoring what is written in the LFM posts. It is extremely frustrating when you are very clear as to what you are looking for in your group and people just disregard it.

even tho i have good speakers, and a headset, i tend to avoid the "have voice" or "need voice" LFMs... because more often than not all that means is i gotta listen to 3/4 of the group yammer on about every-little-thing in a constant stream of chatter. it numbs you, to the point that by the time they say something important, you miss it.

it doesn't help that there's no individual volume control per member... so one guy is rattling my walls and making the dog cringe, while the next guy is a near inaudible murmur. and it never fails that the guy i need to listen to is the one i can't hear, and the one who won't shut up is the one who's volume gives me a headache

    *sigh*

I don't care if someone never speaks into the mic at all, but if you're in my group and can't hear my instructions and you're doing something that I don't want you to do, you will first get told multiple times to get yourself in line, after that you'll get put on my "friends" list.

Just the other day in a LoB run we had a caster with us. Our instructions to him? Kill pillars. We don't care if you don't do anything else, but your job is killing pillars at the start and end. He proceeded to then steal dog aggro from the designated kiter and then attempt to kill the dog that we had already mentioned was only being kited, not killed. His SP was gone and we wasted extra resources killing all the pillars at the end (including the first 4 that he ignored). Had he followed instructions, resource use would have been minimal. We assumed at the start that maybe he didn't speak english. I'm not sure of the exact reason why he couldn't follow simple orders, but the end result was that he got put on my special list and isn't welcome in my groups anymore.

For the good of the party, you should always be able to hear voice commands if at all possible, even if you never use the mic to speak. Not doing so, even if you think it doesn't matter can serve to frustrate other team members. Whether you think it's justified or not, you could end up on several squelch lists as a result.

I had some how missed this post till today, no I don't mind socializing in a multiplayer game. I socialize through typing, I prefer to type it has back space and enter doesn't need to be hit right away. On top of everything else of the reasons I dislike having to listen to others. (which I don't join lfms that require voice chat to speak and/or listen unless its a simple raid like shroud or non-epic dq.) I like to listen to music, it sets tempo for me to focus and work with.

Indeed so! Us prism people are hoping to run you more, we all had a lot of fun. We kinda stalled at lvl 16 though due to some irl business that requires attention. Gotta love beginning of year stuff to close out the previous year x.x

I almost never have voice activated and rarely run into troubles with random PUGs. I do make sure the green icon for voice chat is off rather than just turning it down. I also have a note in the first line of my profile that my voice chat is off. The rare case where someone asks about it, I simply tell them I prefer to keep it off and offer to give up my spot in the group if they'd rather fill it with someone with voice enabled. In the 2 years I've played, I've only been taken up on the offer once.

I don't think having voice off is really a problem as long as everyone is aware and willing to respect each other's preferred way to play. I have no problem leaving a group that requires voice, and avoid the ones that specify it beforehand in the LFM. Most groups return the favor and type anything they care to share. Sometimes they just ask if I know the quest well enough to be self-sufficient and not need instruction and then everyone is happy.
