    Default Uncaring Master

Does anyone have strong feelings about this enhancement one way or the other?

I'd be curious to read what other people think.

    Thanks.

I heard it was broken, but then again I have never used it. If my dog is taking serious damage and I have to concentrate on the moment at hand, then I just dismiss him till the battle is over. To me, it's a worthless enhancement.

I think its broken-or just worded incorrectly.

I'm not too concerned about the pup. either i'm using him in content where I'm not worried about him as its nonthreatening, in a large group where he's unlikely to be the center of attention, or I'm not using him to start with, as his AI would be a liability.

Generally in challenges he's 'Stand Groud'ing miles from you, and has a chance of dying, so I take it if that's what I'm doing for the most part at the time. Outside of challenges I see 0 point in it.

I'm pretty sure it works; just keeps the 'you feel pain yadda yadda' message.

Ok guys, Thanks. I will forego this enhancement and see what happens for a while.

I took it as soon as I could, in the expectation that (aside from finding traps with his face) if he dies, I'm probably in a tough spot myself. I don't know what the HP/SP penalty of him dying is, though, since he hadn't snuffed it before I took the enhancement. Is the penalty a percentage of his HP or something?

Speaking of tough spots, you have to make a concentration check if you're casting when you're dog dies. That and/or possibly the mana penalty can reduce your mana below the casting cost of the spell. This has happened to my character a handful of frustrating times, when that flame turret really, really would've helped.

I don't know if it's worth the action point cost to avoid that effect, but it's something to consider.

Hmmm...I don't know. I can't find out anything specific regarding your question in the DDO Compendium, the DDOwiki, or in the wording of the enhancement itself.

It is assuredly broken based on it's description in the patch notes. Anecdotal it appears to be about 25% health and spell points with or without the enhancement.

    25%??? Holy moly!

If that's correct and the enhancement actually lets you avoid suffering that high of a loss, it sounds like I need to re-do my enhancements and take it!

Hmm, I need to test this. Last time the dog checked himself out, I glanced at my HP and it didn't *seem* to have moved. Had I been thinking, I'd have scrolled back through the combat log. Time to go play in traffic!

Just tested by sending Dog in alone while hiding around the corner in Splinterskull until he bought the farm.

NO damage or spell point loss to me when he died.

But there should be, and there will be once it eventually gets fixed. So the enhancement is worth reserving the AP for in your plan, but not worth actually purchasing at the moment.

No, I already have Uncaring Master. Look at my previous posts in this thread. Deathdefy is correct, in that you get the message that you suffer HP and SP loss, but if you have Uncaring Master, you do *not* suffer that loss.

Yes, I know. But the bug is that you don't suffer the loss even if you don't have the enhancement.
Unless they've fixed that bug already. I wouldn't know if they did or not because mine has always had the enhancement.
