What items have Spell pen 9 (greater?)? It's it all named or possible with crafted?

besides the Amrath belt-clickie what esle can give Polar Ray more mojo? With the DoTs we have now should I even give a hoot about this?

Unsuppressed Vibrant Purple, Epic Shaman's band and Magewrights spectacles all have SP IX.
All named items, as far as i know, no crafted items go up that high.

Other than the Amrath belt clickie, i'd go for the Eardweller, Epic Dragons eye and Mindfury Symbiont.
Usually the belts are enough, but in very rare cases i might actually run out of charges, so in those cases the Superior Efficacy IX is useful.

And yes, even with DoTs, Polar Ray can still be very useful as a nuking spell.

^ for 50% "potency" (Cold VIII) to polar ray. Archmage belt and Palemaster belt have 3 and 2 (respectively) clickies of 50% VIII (8) potency.

Polar ray is useful for mana dumping... other than that I prefer to DoT-torc-tank for sustained damage.

Also, if you have access to a guild airship, the buffer from The Twelve gives you +1 to the DCs of two schools (can't recall which) that doesn't stack with spell focus items and Minor Spell Pen IX (+1 to spell pen on all your spells) that doesn't stack with Spell Pen items.

In my case, I carry both the Epic Shaman's Band and the Epic Greenblade, but also grab the buff so that I run with +1 to all my spells all the time, and can get +2 if I need it.

That's right. The Phiarlan buffer is Enchantment + Illusion, and I don't think any gave Necro.

That's worthwhile for a lot of characters, depending on gear, as if you're focused on Enchant/Necro you may very well not have Spell Focus items on for those schools, even while casting from them semi-regularly, so the bonus comes through. If you're wearing the Napkin or something similar, it's kind of pointless for anything but the Minor Spell Pen IX, as is my case (Epic Staff of Inner Sight overrides the focus buffs).

I wonder why not Mage Wrights specs .
I cannot think of another item occupying the slot exept for greensteel which can be sloted elsewhere.
And the Spectacles are easy to obtain.

They're a good item but they're the ONLY item worth putting in that slot so it remains the go-to slot for GS Conc-op HP. Until you get this spectacles are a great choice though which might be a while if you get your SP item first and even after you get it you might occasionally find the spell pen IX on the goggles more valuable (in a pure CC situation).

where do you get the specs?

In the canith manufactory it drops from Stellite, the first rare you come along. If one switches between 2 toons to check rares there it is very easy to get them since the area has dungeon scaling.

Yeah but good gloves and helmets are also rare for arcanes so Greensteel can be sloted there. I just think its still a nice item to slot spell penn.
At least I use it and dont plan to change it for now. One ring is occupied with epic Elemental Essence Ring anyway.

Not saying that epic Shamans Band is not a good choice but I disagree that its the only good choice.

Magewright's are nice, and I wouldn't currently craft GS as goggles. I'm not impressed with the Epic Spectacles of Spirit Sight, by the way. (I'd prefer to get the +2 and +3's to my DC's elsewhere, such as from The Staff of the Petitioner and the Epic Diabolist.) Unfortunately, I'd have to recraft my currently slotted GS HP/Conc-Opp goggle item. So I'll probably skip it and craft a Greater Spell Penetration IX weapon. You can also use the Greenblade when you need Spell Penetration IX, if you have it. But the current best option appears to me to be an Alchemical stick.

If this works, it seems to me an upgraded Shroud of the Abbot (Greater Light Resistance sounds very nice) would edge out an Epic Robe of Shadow, especially when paired with an upgraded Staff of the Petitioner (adds Superior Potency VI) and Noxious Embers (for Greater Arcane Lore).

Spell Penetration is based on caster level, so yes, Arcane Augmentation does modify Spell Penetration.
