That has nothing to do with ranged doing inferior damage to melee.

Any more development on this concept since last I checked in? Not sure whether I should TR my paladin into a regular DPS Archer build or if it would be worthwhile to look at something like this for something a bit different. Have you rolled it up yet? Tried it? What gear set would you go for?

Same reason I don't factor epics in when making builds either...frankly I think they should just be removed from the game or the level cap should be raised (but make them special non-class related levels no lvl 20fighters/10clerics or w/e) and new content should be made that way.

Anyways about your build...why ranger? if its for extra feats just add more fighter levels so it's 12Fighter/7Monk/1Wiz giving you stalwart2

Alternatively you could drop any plans to bother meleeing and go 12Monk/Fighter7/1Wiz for Tier 3 Stances...namely Earth 3 also Improved Evasion as well...1 Wiz for AA of course (extra feat for mental toughness). I have a Monk Archer who tends to end up off-tanking in our static group alot (monsters just seem to aggro to my character regardless what I'm playing in our group for some strange reason) and I find I RARELY have to switch to melee to recuperate Ki...in your case you plan on main tanking so earth stance will provide all the ki you will ever need (and the extra HP+ % DR and Crit boost can't hurt) and if your not in the tank slot you've always got a Q-Staff on hand just in case (Bloody Staff of Shadow or Dreamspitter are probably your best bet until you can make Alchemical stuff).

Sidenote: Since Ram's Might cause your "Hand's to increase in size" shouldn't it make your fist damage go up say a die step on top of what it does regularly...just an idea

Has anyone tried this? I would really like to see it. (I have done something similar--see the Monkcheri Amour link in my signature--but it is also quite different in that it is a ranged DPS build rather than a tank.)

This in fact happened to the designated Suluu tank, yesterday. When he tried to get Suluu aggro, the ranger grabbed it from him. Suluu started bounding around between the two.

I stepped in and took it from both of them (intimidate) and navigated Suluu to the corner for a scolding. I wasn't using S&B or incite equips so I lost aggro after a few moments to the designated tank.

How, as ranged will you kick off an intim? And I agree that rangers can do nice dmg. I've never really looked into a ranger enuf to know how it would do in close combat situations (intim range).

Well, we know a Pally 6 dip can generate some hate w/ Divine Righteousness. You'd probably want Monk 6 as well MINIMALL for Earth Stance and Shadow Fade to reduce incoming damage.

From there it'd be a question of feats and fitting them in.

Probably Pal 6 (Hunter), Monk 6 (Ninja and 10k stars) and then Ranger or Fighter. Probably Fighter since you'd need DEX anyway for IPS; Ranger 11 would be awesome, but that would eliminate Pally or Monk, and if you really want to hold threat I think you need both.

Anyway, that's the direction I'd take it if I really wanted to hold threat.

Gimme a bit to actually look into it but why not Monk12/Paladin6/Fighter2 (will edit when I'm done with it)

Here it is - very simple

    Code:
    Monk12(NS2)/Paladin6(DoS1)/Fighter2

    Stats

    Str 12
    Dex 16
    Con 16
    Int 14
    Wis 8
    Cha 12

    Feats

    Regular
    1 PBS
    2 PS
    3 Bow Strength
    4 WF: Ranged
    5 Rapid Shot
    6 IC: Ranged
    7 Manyshot

    Fighter
    1 Bow Strength
    2 Improved Precise Shot

    Monk
    1 Toughness
    2 Combat Expertise
    3 Dodge

    Skills

UMD, Concentration, Intimidate (Balance on Monk Lvls)
