Only for killing crystals in part 3.

    What extra chests?

    Disintegrate.

None of my Warchanter DoTs would work :P But I don't think our casters in that run were able to, no.

Well, technically, stacking Firewalls, or whatever else, works.

But they're unreliable. Only the first "tick" gives you stacking damage. They cost a buttload of SP to keep constantly refreshed, for half the duration they used to be "up". They have a Reflex Save for half, whereas they used to be constant damage.

Disintegrate isn't even really the best spell - as others have pointed out, Polar Ray is probably the "bestamest". Consistent damage, no save, no SR check, yadda yadda. I advise Disintegrate because:

    • It is a lower spell level. People tend to have Superior Potency VI before they have Superior Glaciation VIII or above for Polar Ray.
    • 1 Point into Force = Enough damage to take down a Crystal.
    • Crystal has low saves - the No Save vs. Decent Save becomes near-negligible.
    • Again, lower spell level. Sorcs/Wizards while leveling can more easily slot Disintegrate for this task.
    • Instantaneous, and both the spell is easy to target, and the "mob" it is being cast upon is immobile, therefore easily targeted, and unlikely to somehow evade or give a targeting error.
    • Cast once and done. Instead of burning 500, 1000, whatever amount of SP keeping DoTs of some such sort up, you pop one for 50ish SP. If you need SP for some other purpose (like trash sneaks up on you that didn't get cleared), you have it. I have literally seen both Sorcs and Wizards run out of SP on the Crystal before bosses were prepped.

I'm glad to have dialogue on this though. It shows that we're at least capable of discussing strategy still.

Don't need disintigrate. Alot of people won't have disintigrate loaded anyway.

Any ray type spell works just fine.
Stop telling people how to play their characters. Or go get YOUR caster and do it yourself if you feel the need to be super specific about stuff that doesn't matter.

If theres any problem here its the screwed up casting and targeting we've gotten in the last two updates. Where no matter what you shoot at the crystal. Either nothing happens or you 'miss'. Even with it hard targeted after the shield goes down.

When people fail at part 2, I'm going to start telling them surefire ways to be less fail.

And, as said, sadly my casters have the same three day timers and other toon does. And.. *gasp*, I might just have other toons that need completions from time to time.

I've had targeting issues related to me in motion, me in rotation, or a mob in motion/rotation. I've yet to have an issue staring at the crystal, watching the blue ball disappear, targeting it, Disintegrating, and going to loot my part 2 chests.
