Default When to take rogue levels for TR?

Going to do fighter and monk lives. Want to splash rogue so can do trap bonuses also.
Obviously take 1 rogue level at level 1. When should be the second level be taken to basically max out the search/spot/disable/open?

While on topic, what other crazy or fun splashes as long as fighter or monk are majority of the levels, that can also do traps? Might as well have fun while TR grinding. Otherwise just going to take 2 rogue levels.
Fallout, Unforgiven, Skyline, Radient, Tenken, Sagat (first name not Bob).

If I am taking 2 levels of Rogue I generally take the 2nd around level 10 to 12. But if you have a lot of Fighter levels you may want to wait a few extra levels. However, unless you have a very high Int I cant imagine you can max Search and Disable (and really should ignore Spot and Open because you simply wont have the skill points).

Spot only helps if you dont know where the traps are. Open Locks if you have 4 points to begin, a good Dex, a Rogue Skill buff (or Human buff) and the best Open Lock item for your level, then you can open all the important locks in the game (but may not be able to do optionals to treasure rooms).

If you really want to maximise Search and Disable you may need to consider extra levels of Rogue - but Im sure playing around with a Character Generator will let you know just how high you can get.

Doesnt everyone have True Seeing from level 5 onwards?

Actually, I have a few True Seeing items but often dont wear them. There is also the spell which I often dont cast.

True seeing bypasses invisability from magic but not 'mundane' as someone trying to hide in the shadows.

true but the problem is, this game does not actually make foes invisible. its more of a transparancy state to me.
5 means, the first time i played this game i thought invisible would make you literally invisible on the screen and you would be able to pass foes without being touched. Later, i learned that out the hard way as i was going through a hall and i was being hit every second...
So, basically this is why i tend to never take spot as a skill....

The question is, "will this be fixed," (who knows) but i guess we just have to wait.

Scott... I think you are confusing what invisability means. It doesn't make you able to phase though enemies. You just can't be seen using normal methods. If you bump into an enemy while invisable you more or less 'agroed' it.

Then later on it was nerfed a bit to give you a large 'hide' boost and uses that modified hide to see if they can see you. So you are using 'half' of the stealth feat ,but they can still hear you clunking down the hall!

Stealthed foes are fully "invisible". You are able to see them as a transparent/black shilouette if you have a high spot (or if they have a low stealth).

It's currently bugged and stealthed mobs are fully visible, but this will be fixed (it's currently in the Lammania notes). Spot isn't very good for stealthed mobs... the red "blips" you get from listen are a lot more visible than the shilouettes. Listen also gives you some others benefits... you're warned of crumbling floors in wiz king, for one.
