Can someone explain how "craftable" works on Challenge items -- with specific examples? Say, you start out with ML 12 Ring of the Stalker. What can you craft onto it, and what you cannot? Also, would subsequent upgrading to ML 16 destroy crafted functions?

This is next level epics. It's a good thing.
I'm not really complaining. I'm just noticing, that as it is in u12.1, it's not worth the trouble. Also, that getting 3600 epic and 1800 normal ingreds is far too much effort for this kind of payout. It is a grind. And you know it, you were hanging on this argument in some other thread about elemental GA of fire

    Yes. Arguements no different here.

It's a huge grind, the rewards should match the effort. And the higher level ones, higher tier ones should be better.

It works the exact same way cannith crafting works on rune arms. the Craftable (+x) means you can put a total of 1 prefix, and 1 suffix shard with a combined total of +x or less on the item. You have to pick effects that are appropriate for the item, which is easy enough to find.

For example say you have a hypothetical weapon with Craftable +2. You could add the suffix Pure good which is a +2 Shard to the weapon. The weapon would then not be able to have any more effects crafted, but gain pure good. However, the minimum level of the weapon would go up by 2X or in this case 2*(2) = 4 levels.

So if it was a minimum level 12 weapon it would become minimum level 16.

I hope this helped a bit.

And (for Runearms at least) you can also throw on Masterful Craftsmanship I in addition to a prefix, suffix, or without adding a prefix or suffix, taking the ML down by 2.
So, a Craftable +4 base level 12 weapon could go as far up as ML20 with a +4 combo of prefix/suffix and no Masterful Craftsmanship I, or could be as low as ML10 with Masterful Craftsmanship I and no prefix/suffix.

before my question, i would like to state that i don't have any of the challenge items yet, so i may have missed something

But, what is preventing anyone from use a shard of potential(+4, or more i suppose) on these items/weapons? if you can't, never mind. but, if you can, couldn't we theoretically make these items even more incredible, even if you would make them level 20 items?

if so, i could see some of these things being very nice. giving the maul, or really any of the weapons, holy or other powerful effects, although most already have greater banes covered.

again, this is all theory, but if possible, these items have a lot more potential than they originally seemed to have

They'd have to be +5s to even attempt to see if that works. The progression isn't 'tack on 15 shard and youre good', it's 'tack on +6, ok, now +7, ok, now +8, ok, now...' ect. Lowest is 5->6.
