Default Rogues and kukris: a bad idea?

    Hello everyone,

was thinking about my rogue's TR, and I went into some troubles choosing weapons and base attack stat, because of my will to build another assassin (it's too fun to change it) but i had some doubts about the weapons to use: khopeshes? cool weapon indeed, but requires too many feats to use it propely. Rapiers? yeah it's the safe option, wouldnt mind using it again .. then I thought about kukris .. not many damages, but good crit range and .. well .. midnight greetings.
Going for a Fighter dilly I'd have automatic profiency, and spending points on strenght (so, avoiding finesse) i can keep hamstring on (loved it when a guildie show me the potential of that feat) .. but I'd like to listen to other opinions about it.
Any really important matter about kukris should make me change ideas? I know damages aren't that good, but I'm used to it using a finesse drow

    Thanks in advance

The base damage is meh, but with the massive modifiers in DDO, who cares?

Crit range is good, and that's what matters. Kukris are decent. If you're drow though, I'd say rapier/shortsword is better for the racial mods.

Kukri's arent horrible but the biggest issue is they accentuate your strengths (no fort mobs) and do nothing to shore up your weaknesses (high fort mobs) mainly due to their really bad base dmg.

Also other than greetings there is no good named kukris. If you are going strength base and have proficiency why not just go scimitar that way you still get your imp crit if using a greetings but you open up use of the several really good scimitars in the game. And its slightly more dmg for the scimi versus the kukri.

Epic Midnight Greetings have Assassin's Training which grants kukri proficiency while wielding them, so you could use Greetings when you wanted to and rapiers for other situations.

Unless you are a splashed rogue, you would have to spend a feat to use an inferior weapon type if you wanted to always use kukris, which is a bad idea in an optimization sense, if not in a flavor sense.

Edit: Missed the part about fighter dilly, but I still don't see a reason to pick it over rapiers.

You don't need martial weapon proficiency to use midnight greetings anyway as you get proficiency for free with assassin PrE.

If you want something different and like combat feats then I'd suggest to splash monk and go handwraps. The ~+10% attack speed of wraps mostly makes up for missing out on capstone and the extra feats from monk let you take interesting feats like hamstring (though on mine I've gone for stunning blow, stunning fist and improved sunder instead). Handwraps do excellently well against high fort mobs which is a rogues usual weakness. Finally, while leveling monk AC and stunning fist can turn your rogue into a solo tank.

Using this strategy I've kept up an elite streak and haven't repeated a quest since kobolds new ringleader. I've done every available quest at each level besides chronoscope and I'm going through level 8 quests at the moment. I've done interesting things like soloing the end fight in Xorian Cipher while my entire pug group lay dead and other fun things that would normally be out of reach of a rogue but on the basis of 43 AC (bursting up to 58) at level 10 many things become possible.

i second this. was actually thinking of 19/1 split for my rogue. while pure rogues are still best dps against 0% fort, this build is better against 50% fort and higher and adds a bit more versatility to already pretty versatile class.

The 19/1 is good but I'd tend towards either 18 rogue / 2 monk on a half-elf with fighter dilettante or 18 rogue / 1 monk / 1 fighter on dwarf or WF but either way optimising the stunning fist DC is what it's all about (to keep the sneak attacks coming in steady).

I use kukris on my assassin when I need the extra to-hit. They are a nice fallback when you die in raid and have to hit the boss with no buffs.

Khopeshes are a much better "main" weapon.

everything that can be stunned can also be blinded. you put on upgraded ring of lies when blinding is needed. add to that tierI earth alchemical wraps and frozen tunic and you would have a chance to blind enemies, stone them, earthgrab them or freeze them

not saying you can't take stunning fist also, but why? just take moar toughnesses

Stun is 1.5x damage and I'd be suspicious of the average time it takes to proc a deception from ring of lies. Not to mention the DPS loss from giving up a ring slot on an unarmed character.

    http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=351235 is the build.

48 stunning fist DC at level 20.

Level 1-9 I had basically untouchable AC. Level 10 I struggled a bit but now that I'm 11 I've boosted my AC by 6 points and am now 49 self buffed sustainable so will hopefully be untouchable again. I've done elite once and done and not repeated a quest since kobolds new ringleader. 1400+ favour, 120+ bravery streak.

How can you tell? It just doesn't make sense to put incite on that ring. I am not saying you are wrong, it just seems like a terrible mod. What is the % incite?

It makes perfect sense to put a hidden effect that logically contradicts every other effect on the item on the ring of LIES.
Outwardly it makes you more sociable and likable. Secretly it makes everyone want to kill you. That's why it's the Ring of Lies.

I'd like to see some tests to verify that. Just because someone writes something in a wiki, it does not mean it's true.
