so.. i hope game dev read this too..
for few years now i'm working on a SciFi/fantasy novel.
i am a self publisher and i intend on publishing this novel within 1-2 years.
This novel will consist from 4-5 parts.
The first part is called: Atarashi Sekai - The Elemental Warriors
its on Booksie.com but right now closed to view until i finish rewriting it.

now since some of my ideas there are effected by DDO i wander if it would be okay if i use Arraetrikos as a name of one of the evil characters in my novel? (maybe also adding few devils? xD) (game devs or whoever responsible on this please answer me )

i hope people here would like to read this novel and maybe share some ideas for it.

Don't be surprised if they don't answer you. Be prepared to come up with your own name.

I'd PM Cordovan, but chances are unless the name got trademarked you'd be safe. But safer is to rename it and don't call out specific homages in your "about me" section. Maybe that you are an avid DDO player but that would be it.

Just because the name is not trademarked does not make it acceptable to use without license or permission.

Fan fiction is often exempted from copyright infringement claims as a derivative work. See the millions and millions of Star Wars and Harry Potter fan fic sites for examples. If you were going to make money from it, that's a different story. But until you actually sell it to a publisher, it's fan fic.

I don't know what the policy is here and whether you'd need Turbine's OK or more likely, Wizards of the Coast, from whom Turbine licences the content.

Incorrect. I could use "Ericka" in any story I see fit and there is nothing you can do about it.

Should Turbine have placed a trademark or copyright on the name "harry" in conjunction with a red devil pit fiend, and the OP named it the same and looked the same then the OP would have problems. But the op could name his pet dog in the story "harry" and there is nothing Turbine could do.
