Crafting difficulties

Hi i'm looking for help in understanding crafting mechanics.
My crafting levels are arcane22/divine6/elemental5

I was able to craft a shard of VICIOUS (or vicious shard)
I was able to craft a shard of +3 enhancement
I have a blank greataxe

I thought i had all the pre-requisites but i'm unable to bind anything (binding vicious alone wont work, binding +3 alone with the greataxe wont work either).

Where am i misunderstanding the process?

Make sure your axe is disjuncted. Make sure you're using the right machine (bound, not unbound, item machine).

You disjunct the item in the deconstruction machine, make the shards in the bound shard machine, apply the shards to the disjuncted item in the bound item machine.

Do the crafting hall tutorial with the guy at the entrance to get a sense of how things work.
