If you're planning on playing in a group, I'd suggest a human spellsinger. You can either build it strength based and do some melee as well, or go charisma and use crowd control to help out the group. I currently have one of each (Dudess is strength based at level 18, and Washboard is charisma based at 14) and both are fun to play for different reasons. Spellsinger offers a lot to the group, with the spell point regen buff, spell DC buff, and crowd control.
If you think you'd rather go Warchanter, I know a few people that love their Warforged chanters.
If you wantto read up and get some build ideas, this isn't a bad post.

Melee or Caster?
Pure or Mixed?
THF or TWF?
Trap capable?
Spellsinger or Warchanter?
Secondary Healer or Self Heal Only?
Whats your experience level?
Bards can do, and be so much. Just a bit more information would go a long way.
Classic Rocker.
If you are looking for a bard, That's one of the best templates in my opinion. If that doesn't do it for you modify to your liking or check out the bard guide for some older build links.
The WC in my sig is a classic rocker and has a link to the OP.
I am wanting it to be able to fight twf with raipers or khopesh
Healing amp oriented twf virtuoso.
Maybe go human if you really want khopesh, or another race if they have a benefits with a weapon type you like. Virtuoso, full TWF line, toughness and a couple casting feats/whatever, and then use the song of sustenance along with healimg amp, or song + vampiric weapons to keep yourself up and you can provide some nice support damage.
I suppose you could do something similar and concentrate more on casting, but then why go virt and not SS... I think combat is a good choice because you can still perform spell and song buffing duties, support DPS/dual debuff weapons such as cursespewing and destruction/shattermantle whatever and as a virt, do very excellent crowd control with just songs, not having to worry so much about your DC's.
My bard is like this. Maybe not ideal build but I really enjoy it. Pure bard, though 18/2 for evasion might be better. Virtuoso drow with rapier/shortsword enhancements. The fact that the enhancements do two weapons, one large one small, makes twf easier to accept without oversized feat. She weilds a triple positive shortsword offhand with the 30% healing amp and DT armor with healing amp so the sustaining song affects her for about twice as much (heal amp is I think the only thing that affects the song, devotion etc doesnt nor enhancements) and a min2 mainhand weapon which allows imp.crit without having gotten the feat. Instead she has maximize and extend for buffs, heals and sometimes even area of effect spell dps with greater shout.
Lots of fun, versatile with spells, combat, songs, umd. Biggest problem is what to do against raid bosses. Can backup heal or do damage (if the incoming isnt too much for a light melee) but thats where the lack of more specific specialization really shows its flaws.
