Opportunist is working

Maybe that's old news, but I was testing my epic midnight greetings on the training dummy, and sometimes, when deception procs, the dummy is sneak attacked.



Last time I read about it, opportunist was reducing fortification only for crits. Second good news I got for my rogue, after Assassin 3 vorpal started working as intended (100 damage on >1000 HP mobs).

Yeah, it seems it's finally working.

I've just done some testing on the dummy and it looks like you can SA it only once if it's a fresh new one (not helpless). If you are beating on a helpless one, you get them around 10% of the time (only tested opportunist, not whether and how it stacks).

As for karl-koch's question about opportunist and SA to-hit, that's really weird thing. I was unarmed and i was getting a chain of 31,31,36 to-hit most of the time. Key words here most of the time. There was sometimes a 40, 45 to-hit i didn't know where it came from. So i stripped myself from all to-hit bonuses (yes, Tharnes as well) and after a few minutes i was getting 31,31,36 chain with an occasional 35 and 40 (this comes from Rogue SA Accuracy enhancements). So i equipped Tharnes (+5) again, hit SoS (+5) and i could see some 50's.

Now the wierd thing. It would be pretty simple if all those SA to-hit rolls were indeed SAs. Cause they only rarely gave me SAs. I mean i rolled 31 and it was a SA but i rolled 50 and it wasn't, although the latter was using SA to-hit and the former non-SA to-hit.

So now i have no idea how it is coded and when exactly opportunist comes into play.

Edit: About portals, as far as i remember you should be able so SA them without any fort reducers unless you are the first to hit them, cause then they "aggro" on you. Just like the non-helpless dummy.

I have to admit, I was in Shroud recently and noticed I was getting Crits/Senak Damage on my Thief-Acrobat.

I thought *Brilliant* Opportunist was fixed! Then some pointed out they were were using destruction, with the appropriate Fort reducer.

More testing warranted now I've read this thread, I say....

At first, I thought it was the wrack construct, or any FvS aura on the ship. That's why I let the dummy details prompt up: To be sure nothing was affecting it. Since the dummy is not bluffable, I got the EMG one-handed, to lower the numbers of hits and check easily.

Confirmed. Shroud last night on my Rogue, had inspection panel up and was getting Sneak Damage vs. the Portal, with no Sunder or Destruction effects being applied.

Is it possible that the fortification bypass for SA to-hit and SA damage are two separate rolls?

If that's so, only one out of ten SA damage hits would get the SA to-hit bonus, and vice versa.
