Default Build me a system on a budget :)

Looking for some direction in selecting parts for a build. Parts must ship to Canada, and I'm not looking to spend more than ~$400. Don't need anything except the tower, and assembly required is OK.

Need more info. You have a specific goal for this machine? You have a case? How strict is the $400?

if sub ~$400, I would say you better off buy one Assembled . Small parts add up really quick.

    Agreed.

Also, you probably won't be able to play DDO, or most other MMO's, on it.
Once upon a time, I was part of a team, and we saved some children. That was long ago and far away, and, yes, I am that old.

I had a play in newegg, not sure of shipping to you:

-could save $25 & get an el-budgeto case ($19) & upgrade the videocard

-4gb of ram (I wouldn't get less, besides ram is cheap)

-phenom 2 - for future O/C'ing goodness (not sure if the m/b supports any form of O/C, most do though)

-4870 is ok for an old card, but it is pretty outdated (several others to choose from $70-100 mark & should be one of the biggest expendatures), maybe someone could suggest something else?

-could get a cheapo PSU for around $19 & plug an extra $40 into your video card (so ~$140 to spend on video)
maybe get something like a 1gb EVGA GTS 450 for $119 & have $20 for shipping?

    Opps, forgot a DVD burner

That build should be better, not sure how much shipping will add to it.
