    Lightbulb veteran articifer

i have almost enough points to buy artificer. and i just unlocked drow today.

would this be a good idea for a new toon? i have veteran status so i would start at lvl 3(i can do 4, but lvl 3 i can get all the XP from elite on korthos with all the favor in one shot.)

i have no idea what i would be doing. im reading into the class now. im just posting this to get some feed back on the idea.

You can't start at L3. You can start at L4 or you can start at L1. That's your choices.

Drow artificer has some good synergies - Cha Dex and Int, pretty much the prime attributes for an arti (Con being a prime attribute for all classes). However the fact that drow is a 28pt build does limit it somewhat. Personally I favour human (extra feat, healing amp and skill points) or WF (true self healing, bags of immunities).

I also have a feeling that Arti is not a great choice for a 1st life character. Its got so much gear and stat dependency that I wouldn't think about it till 2nd life (and I say this as someone with as yet no second lifers after 2 years of play - but in a couple of weeks after I get my 20th Shroud completion I will be TRing my sorceror into Arti, with a nice evocation bonus from past life and a bunch of gear I've been saving up).

Not entirely true Dunk: You may after collecting the xp for lvl 4, then /death and port off the ship, it was used by me and several others during the NO VET ARTY period, i would take a barb and 2 ftr lvls and then use the xp to lvl up arty once i exited ship.

You lose access to vet starter weapon and gear, and need to set up enhancements after leaving but it is VERY possible (and preferred) if you want maximum benefit from streak.

OP: Drow is good, but human and Helf have just as high INT stat, and some seriously great enhancements. Drow is the black sheep of the ddo race world

I definitely recommend purchasing the artificer class, as it is a phenomenal class with many interesting and versatile skills. It is currently by far my favorite class, and I think that Turbine did a great job with it.

My artificer is a drow and I am having a lot of fun with it; it is a very solid racial selection for this class in my opinion, and you would do well to pick it. However, human, warforged, and half elf are all very good choices as well and should not be overlooked.

If you are relatively experienced at the game, you should purchase it and create a new character as soon as you can. If you are still new to the game, I recommend not doing so until you are more experienced; it is gear-dependent and as an evasionless trapper is fairly difficult to play, having to disable traps competently, buff, and survive.

    Great tip, +1.

Hhuman, WF and helf are definitely better as a racial choice if you have 32 point builds unlocked.
