Smile Looking for an up to date 32pt Monk Build for starters

    Hey there,

as the title says, I'm looking for a 32pt Monk Build, which is kinda up to date. I looked into Mentaru & Martens Builds and some others, though either they're pretty outdated or they're based on 34/36 pts.
I played a monk years ago but as it seems, lot of things have changed.
I don't have any tomes yet, so that's probably an additional problem.

So in essence, can anyone recommend a solid build, that can solo a bit in endgame and isn't completly useless in raids?

Dwarf Monk with strong stuns. You'll need a +1 tome at level 8 to take Improved Two Weapon Fighting at 9.

Enhancements are set up for Void 4. Those require a +2 Wis and +2 Con tome, but you dont have to be in a hurry there - can just run without Void 4 until you get your tomes.

    Alternatively you can go
HElf for Heal scrolls at level 15,
HOrc for higher attack bonus and a bit more damage or
Human for an extra feat and more heal amp.

But those will have lower stun DCs and HP.

Weak points of the build are HP (but Earth stance helps) and attack bonus when you want to tank some nasty stuff.

So in essence, can anyone recommend a solid build, that can solo a bit in endgame and isn't completly useless in raids?
not without tomes at all, though generally you can delay the +2s for everything not dex until 17/18 GM stances come into play. you either need to use a +2 dex tome by level 9, or you have to build to have 17 dex at lvl 9... that would mean at least 16 or better starting dex... and that kinda build kills raid utility. Its fine as a leveling build, but very poor for shroud or anything after

anyway, before i can draw up a build, couple questions

    path?
light = more support, better vs dr, less dps, fewer spare AP
dark = more survivable, better dps, less utility, dr requires money or grinding

    pre and/or void 4
it "is" possible to have either pre AND void 4, but that's 3/4 of your ap used. void 4 costs 34 ap, shintao 3 adds 20(improved recovery) or 22(rise of the phoenix), ninja 2 adds 14

ninja spy eats one feat(dodge), shintao technically eats 2, but i wasn't going to make a build that didn't have stunning fist in it anyway

for a newbie, water/wind shintao 3 with t3 earth and rise is probably the most utilitarian build. give me a little info on what you want and I'll draw it up in the char creator... tomorrow

Thanks for the input so far.

I'll probably want to try out shintao for the first monk, because of the healing abilities.

shintao healer, for the low low price of complete raid uselessness, i can even throw in halflling dragonmarks... actually a halfling dragonmarked shintao would be a pretty solid build for leveling...

    anyway...

dual-role build, run wind stance for dmg, ocean for mob control/oh **** i have aggro

given the changes to earth stance(god thats a lot of threat) I no longer recommend it for new players who may not be able to deal with being the target. also, this is a rogue dille build, and while unbalancing is good for enabling SA(particularly with 30 wisdom* backing it up) its not available for every target.

cleave can be replaced by any shintao pre-req feat: Cleave, Diehard, Discipline, Luck of Heroes, Precision, Resilience, Self Sufficient. obviously no combat expertise you don't have the INT for it

skill focus: concentration can be replaced by any feat at all

cycle your strikes (earth> air > water) and spam your buffs, you have access to moment of clarity, but its a pain to setup in this build once void 1 stops being useful damage... use that stupid high concentration to pre-load it.

welcome to the world of bugged handwraps.

"Up to date"? About the only thing that has changed lately are earth stances and improved sunder, so pick an older build and try to fit them in.

    My suggestion:

    Human

STR 15 <--level points go here
    DEX 16
    CON 15
    INT 8
    WIS 15
    CHA 8

    Skills:

    Concentration
    Balance
    Jump
    Spot

    Feats:

    Toughness
    TWF
    Power Attack
    Stunning Fist
    Improved Sunder
    Dodge
    IC: Bludgeon
    iTWF
    gTWF
    Toughness
