    Default 16 Wizard/4 Fighter Build

So I have always loved being able to throw around spells in heavy armor and then close for Melee to finish off the unsuspecting mob of bad guys. I have been toying with a build for awhile and figured I would stop toying with it and build it in the Character Planner and see what you guys thought.

    Points: 32
    Race: Elf
    Class: 16 Wizard / 4 Fighter
He is going to specialize in Evocation Spells as well as the Two Handed Weapon: Falchion (Elves get +2 to-hit, and +4 DMG which I am going to need for Melee)

This Build provides me with 14 total feats!!!

6 of which I use to increase my Melee capabilities
    2 for Survivability
    5 for my Spell Casting

So here is the break down:

    Code:

I went with the Archmage line to keep my offensive spells as powerful as possible, and to help me be more flexible with my spells. I selected Empower Spell for no real reason, other then DMG/SP, but I am not locked into this Feat, and may change it in the future.

As for my Melee Feats, the only one I have been debating on is Power Critical. Most of the time that Feat is pointless, but with my low BAB and the high threat range of the Falchion, I wanted to make sure that all my Critical Hits were in fact Critical Hits. LOL.

I know I have not specked gear for this guy, but I figured I would get all the best Attacking Gear I can get my hands on as well as items to buff my Spells even further. Of course I will get Mythril FullPlate and Craft Twilight onto it so I can avoid any Arcane Spell Failure. I am not really looking for ideas on his equipment, just the basic build that I have right now.

Thanks for you input in advance!!!

Have you considered divine instead of Arcane? Fighter/Cleric has greater synergy due to higher hit points, self healing, BAB, and armor use.

If you want to maintain a fighter wizard feel without sacrificing armor or too much HP you could use a fighter with 2 levels of Wiz which is enough to get wand/scroll use and enhancements. You would pound enemies with wands and scrolls and move to melee to finish. This way you would be a very effective fighter even if your buffs are dispelled.

The other way to run a combat arcane is to roll up a Sorcerer / Paladin, they have synergy through charisma, fantastic saves, self healing through wands/scrolls.

I would switch out Power Critical for Quicken. If you want to reliably cast spells in melee you need quicken because no matter how high you can get your concentration it will not be enough to prevent that crucial reconstruct to land in the midst of chaos.

Fighter 4 gives acces to Fighter Critical Accuracy II which gives a +4 bonus to land critical hits, add seeker gear (+6 is easy to get) and you are looking at a +10 to confirm critical. More than enough to land your crits.

Also 28 strength (16base + 2 tome + 2 enh. + 6 gear + 2 exceptional) seems a bit low on a melee toon if you ask me, not sure if it's worth it to loose your capstone over that.

But obviously you already know all this since you followed the discussion in my thread

    Axess (high dps/versatility [TR1]) ~ Nimmuz (cleric) ~ Roboboogie (spellsword [TR1])
Partydeluxe (bard [TR1]) ~ Partywiz (WF AM [TR1])

Just at a glance you have 2 massive problems.

    1. HP. You have 12 base constitution. At the very least you need 14 base and more realistically for a melee arcane you need 16 base (which is basically impossible on an elf).

    2. You don't have self healing. The best thing about blue bar melee characters is their self sufficiency and self healing.

    Other problems:

2 fighter is enough. 18 wizard gives much, much more than what 16 wizard gives.

    Suggestions:
    1. Swap from archmage to palemaster to get decent self healing, more HP and better defenses.
    2. Go to 18 wizard (which gives lich form at palemaster III).
    3. Pick up shield mastery feat. Specialising in falchions gives you bonuses to scimitars as well and shield mastery is an amazing feat.
    4. Adjust your feats to something like: Toughness, Mental Toughness, Spell Focus: Necromancy, Greater Spell Focus: Necromancy, Extend, Insightful Reflexes, Maximise, Shield Mastery, Improved Critical: Slashing Weapons, Power Attack, Spell Penetration, Greater Spell Penetration, Heighten
    5. Adjust starting stats to 14 strength, 10 dexterity, 14 constitution, 18 intelligence, 8 wisdom, 8 charisma. Going strength based is an option if you're prepared to rely on no-save spells (of which there are a decent amount).

    That's about all I have ...

At first I thought you were being serious about this build, but then I read this part and realized you were just trolling.

Non-self healing melee Wizard with low HP.

What will the healer think? What will he do?

"I am not healing that guy". That's what.
    At least I wouldn't.

Might want to consider going palemaster instead so you can watch your own redbar, I have one, got rid of 2 fighter levels, now 18wiz/2fig. Tough character but not any good for epics. Real fun for solo.
