I guess Pandora´s Box or Fortuna´s Horn, as whatever you may see it, has opened allready and won´t be closed again. Probably in the long run a mictransaction model cannot survive without some solid incentive in the store. I am fine with that by now, put into the store whatever you like (but it be a fine move if Turbine actually would be honest about it instead of trying to sneak it in by tiny steps - unsuccessfully for that matter). rather do that than touch general game mechanics with every update. I have taken a longer break now till I can see an end to reevaluating old content over and over again.

The vets wanted the game harder, so the devs did it in many ways
1.) Made hirelings utterly stupid. I mean really a close nit tactical squad of 6 people would not have their medic(we'll call him leroy for now) Lead into the fray while the rest of the team prepared for oncoming battles.
2.) Increased lag. Raid completions became too common on all difficulties, increase lag means easy button is deleted.
3.) Buff raid boss hp melees were not useful enough before and healers didn't need pots paired with lag we wanted epic fights to be a strain so they increased time it takes to stand there with auto attack and spamming the same buttons by two times over.
Made many of the vets happy with the changes to the raids, the easy button of the scrolls trade 3 for 1 doesn't affect any one who isn't selling them at extortionist prices. Oh boo hooo you'll get less plat for them now. Those who say its too easy to make the desert items now do remember the drop rate for seals and shards are unchanged so it'll take just as long to get the non-purchasable parts.
Don't worry casters you're not nerfed in any way in the update either, heaven knows what'd happen if casters got any sort of nerf.
Edit: Oh and DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
Veriden, Orien server: Lost count of lives. 3 of all base classes, 3 halfling, 2 gnome...working on trying to make the game work again. May or may not return.
I think the DDO store is great, when I first started playing I was able to buy buffs/res cakes etc that made the journey easier and more fun, because instead of dieing and getting mad I was able to buff and/or res myself. Now that I've been playing a few months, I play better, die less and can afford to buy the available in game buffs using in game money. I suppose you could call being able to buy Heroism, Barkskin and Haste pots p2w as well going along the OP's tangent.
I remember sitting in a group to kill a mob that always dropped the loot we wanted, but every hour when he popped it was like 1/8th of a chance it would be him, and 7/8ths chance it would be some placeholder mob that dropped garbage. 7 hours later when he finally popped, some wizard came over and one shot killed it, looted, and scooted. Many keyboards did not live through that day, heh.
DDO differs from other games in the 3-5 year old mature game rule, due to that paradigm-shifting event you outlined, where most of the players are not end game players.
I still think its cute though when I see people referring to DDO as a grind game, heh. The epic weapon quests in EQ1, many of them 50+ steps, were more insane that anything we have seen in DDO. That was to fill one slot. Everything else was filled by single instance per server raids. Imagine one guild killing Horoth on monday, and that locks out Horoth for everyone else on the server til next monday. Think encrusted rings are hard to come by these days? Pffft. LOL.
and 2-3 guilds with anywhere between 18 upwards to 40+ people from EACH GUILD would be there waiting when spawn timer was supposed to be up... bickering with each other over who got the rights to it. Celestial Tomb on Veeshan could crash a zone when they showed up to raid. >.<
i camped that stupid + wisdom book (that i can't even remember the name of anymore) that all the druids wanted. did it twice (once for my husband, once for me) 8 hours sitting staring at a wall the first time. second time i logged off right there in anticipation of server maintenance. logged back in the instant i was able and he was there. nuked his pants off, collected book, and ran just as another guy logged back in right behind me.
yeah. this game has got nothin' on that

Bickering, in the form of a 75 mob rofltrain® centered on the other guilds healers who are too concentrated on keeping their heal chain timer going to worry about the incomming stampede.
I think that camp was in highpass hold. I remember it well. Lots of homework got done waiting for that one to pop, heh.

Or a guild of that size would get together, pick an item they wanted to acquire for all of their members who could use it, and then go to that dungeon where the critter that dropped it spawned and camp that spot for REAL TIME DAYS until everyone who wanted one got one. I saw that happen more than once.
Chai mentions Highhold Pass as being the location and he's absolutely right. The guy spawned once every two or three days in a bandit camp that was well of the beaten path. What most people did was to go to the spot and log off there and log back in periodically to see if the guy spawned. I think what he dropped was a page from a book that you had to combine in the book with another page you got somewhere else. My Druid managed to get his page the exact same way you did: logging in right after server maintenance, which seemed to be the time that all of the rare mobs spawned to reset their individual timers.i camped that stupid + wisdom book (that i can't even remember the name of anymore) that all the druids wanted. did it twice (once for my husband, once for me) 8 hours sitting staring at a wall the first time. second time i logged off right there in anticipation of server maintenance. logged back in the instant i was able and he was there. nuked his pants off, collected book, and ran just as another guy logged back in right behind me.![]()
Spot on. There's grinds and then there's GRINDS.yeah. this game has got nothin' on that
+3 tomes are no longer raid loot, so it's really hard not to see this thread as irrational crying.![]()
Akrites: 10 Wiz (TRed Bard), Oakianus: 20 Wiz and Odanta: 20 Monk. All on Khyber, because I love drama.
Lol, some of you guys posting in here need to take it easy. It's just a humorous take on the "this game is too hard" threads, not a personal attack on anyone.
