    Default XP token in chests

Don't know if this has been suggested in the past, but what about adding an XP token similar to guild renown in chests or as an end reward...

Could be rarer than guild renown, and would have to start at higher amounts such as 500, 1000, etc. but sometimes it would be nice to loot an extra 1K xp over some vendor trash.

    Any thoughts?

Perhaps a potion that gave you extra xp for your next few quest.

Its rare but you can already get xp pots (and other DDO store items) in chests.

I think that was his point.

Of course, I can't be sure; text-only communication has a -15 circumstance penalty on all Sense Motive checks.

I would like to be able to take XP instead of loot, but they do already offer the chance (although it's a small chance) or looting XP pots from chests.

My recommendation would be a bonus shown on the XP sheet for chest looting.

Make it a tiered bonus (like aggression, onslaught, conquest) based on the number of chests in a quest. So if there is only 1 chest, not taking the loot from that one chest would result in the highest tier of bonus.

My recommendation, 5% XP bonus per tier, 3 tiers. So for quests with only 1 chest, if you don't take the loot, you get a 15% bonus to XP.

For quests with hidden / locked chests, those chests should not count (ie., you can't get to a chest, or you can't unlock a chest, so you get free XP for not opening it = bad idea, me thinks).

I think the way to go would be that, to get the bonus, you have to open the chest, and not loot it. At that point, it adds 1 to the counter of the number of chests you could have looted, but didn't. Once that amount reaches tier 1 / 2 / 3, you qualify for 5, 10, or 15% XP bonus.

Edit: This should also be on a per player basis, and not as a group whole, so that you don't wind up in situations where people are making LFMs saying "no loot" etc., it should be figured the same way late entry penalty is assessed, on the individual, not as a group.

This already drops from some chests. It's rare, but they do drop.

    What about this:

You talk to Jeets in the Grotto and *BLING*
Congratulations! You're level 20! Go talk to a trainner ASAP!

    Enough easy button, guys. Seriously.
    I don't care...

This isn't about leveling up faster, it's about loot being mostly trash, and also the fact that a character can only hold so much platinum (and it's not that much) (which may be addressed, at least somewhat with the new shared platinum slot in the bank).

I mean really and truly, 99% of everything you loot from a chest you either sell to vendor, sell on auction, deconstruct, or *OMG* leave it in the chest because you don't really feel like it's worth your effort to tote it back to town to sell it for peanuts and/or you are limited on inventory space and you have to pick and choose what to loot.

I would love it. I take a lot of trash and sell it immediately for small amounts of plat that might get spent on pots or something.

I'd much rather take some XP to help level quicker and to keep my inventory cleaner.

After all the xp bonuses and xp potions and such...

    ...I think no.

It doesn't actually feel a grind anymore to level cap a toon.

Would your opinion change if the level cap was increased?

Problem being that people would ignore chests, complete the quests to lock in bonuses, and then go back and loot everything.

I like the idea, somewhat. I'd much prefer Turbine just boosting the XP from the friggin' optionals - some are ridiculous (elite mama dragon in Mired in Kobolds is only 2k exp!).

I think of those optionals as "bragging rights" challenges. The XP/loot gained from them isn't worth the trouble, but it's cool to be able to say you completed them at-level. Frankly, I wish the game would have more such challenges.

Bragging rights, while nice, are hardly a reward from optionals - especially the "Extreme Challenge!" Optionals that have been popping up recently.

Lets face it, optionals need balance. The fact that any ONE rare in the shadow crypt gives more XP than Undead Pykzyl is just sad.

Depends on your reason for playing the game.

The devs should include such challenges in the game. I love 'em; the rest of you don't have to do them.
