I think keeping track of your spell components is one of the necessities of playing a caster. I put mine in a hotbar so I can see them and keep track of how many I have left.

Rangers and arcane archers have to keep track of their arrows. Rogues have to keep track of their tools. It's part of the game.

I would like to see a spell component bag, though!

We already have something like that.

If you click 'I' it will open up your inventory. Then you simply choose which pack has your components and viola!

I also would like the disable device skill (and open lock) to have a quantity shown on it's icon with how many thieves tools I have left, and a right click menu like spells have to enable or disable the display of the quantity, but also, it'd be nice to be able to right click and see a list of which thieves tools you have in your pack, and be able to select "Always use this stack" or something like that.

Not an issue for experienced players, very much so an issue for newer players. Even if they have good thieves tools, if they loot some that aren't so great, they could be using the lower tools and not even realize it.

As far as arrows and bolts are concerned, I think there needs to be some work done such that stacks of arrows inside a quiver can be hotbar'd, and you should be able to hotbar the ammo slot itself and NOT just the stack of whatever is there currently. Therefore, you could hotbar your ammo slot, and see how many arrows / bolts of the currently equipped stack there are, and a hotbar with all of your ammo types on it, but that ammo is actually inside your quiver.

The spell component bag is needed for inventory space saving, not to see what components you have.

i say give us a spell component bag, or get rid of components entirely. having YET ANOTHER item i have to clutter my extremely limited inventory with is a pain. i ran with Eschew last life, and if i could fit it, i would probably run with it this life too... but i can't fit it.

it's all fun and games till you decide to try to play a bard with rogue splash... OMG scrollswandspotsmatstools *headasplode!*

Here is an option. Just a stray thought that may or may not suck...

Why not remove spell components of individual levels and make one generic "Spell Component." Spells of different levels could use multiple components. Maybe "special" spells could use a lot. (20 to cast "create undead," 15 for "stoneskin.") That way you continue to have the resource drain and you have the advantage of limiting the inventory space to 1 spot.

The downside would be if you ran out of components you would be fairly well screwed, as opposed to current state where you simply have to adjust your strategy.

    Just a thought.

Default Here's a variation on the OP that may be more palatable.

What about, whenever you start talking to your favourite components vendor, they notice you're low on certain ingredients and make a suggestion?

<vendor> says: My my, looks like you're low on few eagle feathers and nymph tears. Remember to add them to your purchase list, eh?

Not a pop-up, but more of an inline reminder than such a thing.
    Goe ahed... korekt mah spelin'.

The only problem with this is, if you're at the vendor that sells them, you're probably already aware that you need them :P

    This /signed.

At the moment, spell components add nothing to the game. Useless mechanics/rules should be either removed or fixed to such that affect distinctly on the gaming experience.

    ...to useless game mechanics!

I think this is a great idea +1

I always find out im low when I run out.

The tool bar idea is also a good idea for a work around-thanks for the tip.

Maybe we could have a visual pop up when I'm low on cure moderate potions. And another one when I'm low on cure serious potions, and another for when I'm low on haste pots. And then I would need one for my lesser restoration potions, my remove curse potions, etc... Ad infinitum...

It really doesn't seem that taxing to keep track of your own gear. I keep a stack of 1000 of each spell component, visible in a hotbar, and after running enough quests for any of them to get down to 750 or lower I teleport to the Portable Hole and top them all off. Easy peasy.

Oh that's right, I forgot we open our bags mid fight to use a potion or cast a spell. Silly me for wasting a hotbar slot on them.

Seriously, when you are playing on an older monitor, and can really only fit 6 or so bars on your screen, adding a hotbar for components is not an option, not if you want to see what you are actually doing. and I speak from prior experience on that.

And wasting bags slots to carry around 1 stacks x6 to 15 stacks is ridiculous as well.

Those classes that do not require spell components wouldn't likely see the pop-up.

If nothing else, how about an icon where the world event text opens at, just a box we can mouse over and see it say we need components? Might be less intrusive for people that don't like the pop-up.

Alternately, let us stack stacks of spell components to 10k per stack, then we can fit a weeks supply in our bags.

If you have room for one hotbar on your screen, you can hotbar your spell components. Put it on bar #2 if you like, and every so often click on the arrow to look at that hotbar.
