Default WoW making a DDO style monk?

    http://wow.joystiq.com/2011/10/28/gh...-pandaren-monk

    *
What interests me most is this particular snip:

Insider:How will the monk differ from other classes?

Ghostcrawler: We're trying a few different things. For now, the monk has no auto-attack, which is unique among melee classes. The monk has a different resource as players might expect, where they have both light and dark resources that power different abilities. We are even trying to have the monk healing spec use a lot of punches and kicks. While monk characters will care about weapons, and weapons contribute to their damage and healing, you don't see the weapons in a lot of attacks. We save them for some of the big finishers

I feel like WoW which has been accused of this in a lot of instances to take things from other games and incorporate it into theirs. I just see a lot of disturbing yet enticing parallels that are the reason why I love the monk class so much. Kinda scared...

WoW came up with everything first because its the only MMO in existance! so as soon as theyre introduced they will have been entirely original & the only MMO monks ever to have been introduced - everything else that will have appeared to be around for longer will be merely copying them through some kind of space-warping thing, possibly a side-effect of the LHC.

edit: o, wait, forgot my /sarcasm tags
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

Pandaria existed in the Warcraft universe long before KungFuPanda...

    This.

I too saw how they were going to implement it and thought 'sounds familiar...' but on the other hand, WoW is getting SO dumbed down these days, that I don't think it'll exactly be a real comparison. Plus, there's only so many ways you can do a kung fu fighter with special monkey magic moves.

Funny story though, got an e-mail in my spam box from "Blizard Entertainment" saying they know I've been trying to sell my wow account and wanting me to click the link....short story short, empty spam folder

True, but they were mostly a joke like dinosaurs in Command and Conquer. Now introducing them as a playable race along side other animal enemies (monkeys, tigers, manits)just makes the game seem more like a cartoon than before.

As far as Monk, WoW has been D&D based since its creation. Granted, not very D&D but the original designers have often credited D&D for its inspiration and they held a memorial for Gary Gygax.

And I dont put it past Jack Black to look for a paycheck from a cameo.
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

    Impressive quadru-fecta:

    • a game based on a previously existing game (D&D),

    • introducing a new race ripped off from a movie (Kung Fu Panda, itself a parody of a established move genre)

    • bringing in a new class that rips off both the movie

    • *and* a class from another online game (DDO) that is also based on the same original game (D&D).

well, no, and when I say the warcraft universe, I do mean before WoW. And loooong before the kungfupanda movie. So if anyone ripped off anyone, the movie ripped of blizzard... Seems like WoW's monk will be similar to ours, but from what's written on their site, I'd say there are some pretty significant differences. Just because a game introduces a new class, and that class bears a resemblance to someone else's game, doesn't make it a rip off. just sayin'

Note that WOW Monks are a triple-threat class that can be either tank, damage, or healing. It'd be weirdly cool if the DDO Henshin Mystic could act like a raid healer...

This month, WOW is switching raid timers to 2x per week like DDO, where they'd previously been 1x per week.

Also see that WOW Monks have animations like the Tumble skill in DDO; but presumably they'll try making the skill actually useful in battle.

Holy ****! You mean to tell me that this:

    http://www.doesnotplaywellwithothers...omics/pwc-0132

...was not a complete and utter fictional joke?!?! And instead, that it contains factual information about what WoW is doing???!!?!?!

I honestly thought they were making all that up in that comic just to be funny...

Yea....I admit that since reading the article I have been a little absent from the DDO world....dusting of the 85 BDK & PW and doing some randoms. As much as I hate the WoW community...I LOVE wow tankin, its just a adrenaline rush like no other. I mean, no autoattack like im used too manual combat, similar system. Sounds like to me that WoW wants those top monk players from the MMO that made the first real tanking and dps'ing monks. There I said it.

I also thought it was a joke. A bad one, actually. I watched it for a moment, said to me "not funny" and did not spend a second thought on it. Now that it seems serious...well... I wouldn´t say anything if WoW would have a nice combat system and so on, but WoW + kungfupanda...fail.

Thing is I was convinced it was a badly timed April fools joke based on the original warcraftIII(I think) April fools joke where the pandapeople were introduced.

Buuuuuut i guessss.... it was wanted enough? Idk, they have cow/bull men(mino's), and other similar quasi animal/humanoid mixes, just don't get how panda's were tossed in.... I mean maybe bear people with panda being a choice? IDK...

But its real... Did kungfu panda really gross THAT much interest that they decided to 'cash in' on its success?
