I downloaded this version of DDO a few days ago for the free period. After deciding to go ahead and pay by the month for full access, I dug up my old box game (DDO Stormreach) for the activation key. I used that activation key. Gave my credit card info. Received the welcome, blah blah message. Logged into the game and still am only on the free version. Do I need another product key?

How long ago did you upgrade?
According to this post: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=213961
it can take up to 2 hours for VIP upgrades to go through and you will need to completely close and restart the game client.

To add a bit more, it could take up to 48 hours. I guess depends on your region and credit card validation etc. If you still haven't got your status upgraded after that, please contact account support.
Btw, it took me bout 1 hour.
