    Default Hireling AI: bug or bias?

    I have a character who can fight equally well in melee or ranged. When soloing or short manning I use a cleric hireling.

    As an observation on the hirelings AI;
    - if I am in melee with the enemy the hireling healer heals me as I take damage and works fairly well, however...
    - if I pull the bow out and engage in ranged combat, even at point blank range, the healer hireling refuses to automatically heal me. I can take damage 1 point at a time and eventually get incapped and he just stands there.
    - if I am ranged, taking slow damage, then switch to melee weapons, the hireling once again begins to heal me.

    Anyone else seen such behavior or know a way to get the hireling to heal me while I am shooting away?

    Cheers

    There is supposedly an error upon first summoning for a hireling. If you switch them to aggro mode and then back to defensive they are supposed to go back to normal defensive behavior.

    Well, as normal as a hireling ever gets.
    The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

    I suppose hirelings have been set up to mirror human AI?

    When you're in melee they heal you, if you're ranging "dood - hJeal yerself!"
