Default The Stalwart Spy, a Hate Tank

Stacking earth and defensive stances, improved evasion, 25% incorporeal and paladin saves with dark monk dps and fighter feats, this bare-knuckled brawler will get the bosses attention, keep him focused on you, dish out her own share of damage, and most importantly, survive while doing so. Decent gear and combat buffed will net you 800 hp, 80ish ac, and mid-high 30s saves.

This isn't some "eat a stack of +3 tomes" build, either; you only need two +2 tomes, and one of those can wait as you only need it for earth 3.

It seems an interesting build to me, especially with the new changes to earth stance.
Would you mind to and the enhancements and list the skills you'd focus on?
I may use it, if you don't mind, when TRing.

BTW: DDOwiki states Stunning Fist depends on Character level (as opposed to Monk level). Can someone verify this? If so, it adds nice to this build.

I'm working on a very similar build, but I was planning to switch the fighter and paladin levels (6 paladin / 2 fighter). Divine righteousness is a really good way to ensure that you quickly get and keep aggro. I was also planning to try and work some stunning blow/fist in there as well for making trash fights easier. Generally though I think it will kick some major ass.

Skills are tight on any melee, and monk is no exception. Balance, concentration, and with the investment in CHA, UMD might be useful (could get 24 for RR gear).

AP aren't much better; touch of death is expensive, and you'll want earth and wind 3, so skip the others entirely.

My logic for 6 fighter over 6 paladin is feats; the PrEs are basically identical, so it's a question of a few paladin enhancements (that I really can't afford the AP for anyway) as opposed to weapon focus, weapon spec, and haste boosts (which do more to maintain aggro than divine righteousness). Stuns can easily be worked in in place of toughnesses.

On a character that takes toughness 5 times, it is hard for me to see how the extra 2 feats you got from 6 VS 2 levels of fighter makes any tangible difference. Sure, 44 extra HP are nice to have, but it wouldn't factor strongly in the build design, in my opinion.

I also don't see any way that weapon focus, weapon spec and haste boost would give more aggro than divine righteousness. Assuming you hit on a 2 with either build, then weapon focus is irrelevant in the comparison. So you're left with +2 damage from weapon spec and 5% extra haste boost (the 2 fighter splash still gets the first tier of haste boost) as compared to 100% extra hate generation. Divine righteousness may very well be overkill on the hate gen, but it absolutely represents a significant increase over the OP build.

I think both varieties are perfectly viable and should be very powerful, so any differences are probably minor in the end.

I'd probably go 12/7/1 Monk/Fighter/Rogue for Tier III Haste Boost, and sneak attack and UMD from Rogue...

Then skip Half-elf, and go Human instead... Still get Damage Boost and Healing Amp, and an extra feat.

Those are good points, I guess that I am still looking at things from a perspective of having DPS when tanking is not called for, but as you say, that's pretty minor; I will build it out and see how it looks.

I did my other monk 12m/7f/1ro, and I find the UMD to be of limited utility.

As for race, it's built as human....
