Default Is this build still effective?

    Hi. I found this build:

    http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php...ghlight=batman

... and it seems to be what I'm looking for.
But as the thread is pretty old I was wondering if someone more knowlegeable of the game than myself can take a look and tell me if the build is still good.

I would like to know specificaly if the build is good enough to solo amarath on normal.
Also, i would like to modify if for THF as i already have a min2 greatsword.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

It will be playable, but not *effective*.

Also, it's not an Approved Build™ , so you might run into trouble with silly/newbish raid leaders.

Today's tanks have a lot more HP than the ones from that time, they usually don't need evasion. Build a simple, pure level 20 melee first and you can think about weird builds after running raids successfully a few times.

I would say that with the changes to Stal that the old posts calculations are off with regards to hp and with the sent dragon marks the denith helm and fully geared in stance you'd get around 900+ hp. I would say that this build would be effective but not optimal. I'm not sure what your looking for but I'm sure if you tell us we can help you modify that build to fit your wants.

Ty for the replies. I was originaly just looking for a self healing melee, as I'm presently playing with a pure barbarian and I find it frustating to be healer dependant.

This build would offer much more, as I would be able to do traps (which I like) and would introduce something I never did b4: tanking.

Would this build have decent endgame/epic dps if modified to use a min2 greatsword?

Re: the bolded part. For epic Chronoscope, a tank with (impoved) evasion is pretty much wanted for the end fight.

Re: Getting a self-healing Tank who can do traps.

Generally speaking, this is a lot to put into one build.

Most proper melee classes are tight on skill points, which makes it hard to include trap skills. On the other hand, every build with a Rogue (or Bard, or Arty) splash is able to get reasonable self-healing through UMD'd heal scrolls. This requires some additional gear and will not work entirely while leveling.

Other self-healing options are: 18/2 Paladin, heavily-ranger based builds (e.g. 15 ranger/4 fighter/1 rogue), or a Monk/Fighter build which uses the Fists of Light attack to get back some HP on every hit.

I am making this build for a friend of mine. It's still in the working prosses and the changes to monk might change it further. He wanted something to get PL rogue and be able to solo most of the time and be able to tank some endgame content once he got there. He wanted WF no matter what and he would still like it to be dual khopesh build but for this I would suggest Qstaff. Fully geared out and in stances (earth and stal) it might be able to the 800'ish hp (not something I would take into eLoB but fine for the rest). It can do traps and UMD most scrolls but again its gear intesive for the epic lv traps. I'm sure this build could be done w/o all the pl (take points from str 16 base should do it for a 32 point). What I was realy going for here was a tank that was immune to knockdown and had imp. evation.

If you want to go thf/tank/epic trapper/and have some self healing with a more standard build you might want to go with a 2rogue/18 barb or monk (if they keep the u12 changes to monk earth stance) both classes get a good amount of skill points for a little investment into int and human will give you an extra one/lv as well as a feat. I have a dual khopesher planed for the next life on my main (I've invest to much into khopeshes to give them up, lit2's, smiters, disrupters, and my pride and joy a crafted +5 silver holy burst of greater lawful outssider bane with a med guild augment slot) that I'll also post here. I can break down the math on the skills for you but I'll have to do it when I have more time.

Interesting approach. Quite a number of Toughness feats which you picked up there.

Will Dodge give you any essential benefit? Will you achieve reasonable AC with that build?
If not, consider taking Shield Mastery instead which is at least a situational damage reduction untility.

Batman 9.4 is still an interesting build, IMHO, but it doesn't take into account some changes since it came out:

    • U9 changes to Intim & shield feats - turtle-tanking is no longer viable while the shield feats went from almost useless to almost mandatory on a S&B tank, IMHO
    • Some of the newer gear - in particular, epic Swashbuckler + epic Duelist Leather might be better for it than Icy Raiments + AC bracers + Lorrik's
    • You can now use Versatility + Haste Boost simultaneously on humans & HEs.
    • HE might be better than human depending dilly: e.g., pally for +saves, monk for +AC & +20% heal amp.

Plus if you switch to THF, it makes sense to have DAxe or BSword for S&B tanking; esp. the latter if you get an epic Chimera's Fang.

Ty all for the reply's. I'll try the 18 Barbarian\2Rogue build.

Btw, would a Lesser Reincarnation allow me to change my initial class from barb to roque? or do i have to lvl to 20 and TR again to do that?

The main drawback to rogue / barbs is that while Raged you can't use wands or scrolls, disable traps, etc. - you can't do much other than hit stuff & drink pots. For barbs who only take the rogue splash for Evasion, this isn't an issue; but it sounds like you want to be self-sufficient as well, which doesn't mesh well with a barb's anger management issues.

An LR or GR +1 or +3 would let you change class on your first level, yes, so long as there are no alignment conflicts (not an issue with rogue / barbs) and you have no more than 3 classes in your build at any time (e.g., if you had a rogue / barb / ftr and decided you wanted to replace barb with rgr, you'd have to LR once to turn all your barb lvls into rogue or ftr first, then do a second LR a week later to swap in rgr).

Yes i realize that, but it seems to me that with 18 levels of barbarian, even unraged, the raw dps and attack bonus will be greater than the other build would allow. But I could be wrong. I'm the 1st to admit i dont have a complete understanding of all the game mechanics envolved.
I was thinking of saving the rages for when there is a healer around.

Does TWF and greater base strenght make the dps of the 6Fighter\2Monk\12Rogue greater, despite its highest class lvl being 12 roque? Or are they about the same?

Also, would the other build work with human? And can it be adapted for THF?

Ya, I don't think I've ever seen us run this with an evasion tank. However, I've never run it outside of guild/channel runs, so perhaps with random pug groups it might be more necessary.

There are a number of rogue 13 / <something> 6 / <something else> 1 builds out there which you might want to look at for ideas: e.g., the Hurtlocker.

The first build Meatshield posted is similar to theHurtlocker build posted a while back.

    http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=194791&page=6

its a 13rog/6pal/1monk WF TAII/DoSI TWF Khopesh build. Suprisingly effective, but probably not enough HP's to tank Epic LoB.

I rolled a 32pt version of this build, but haven't leveled it up yet. the changes to DoSI actually give it a bit more tanking oomph, along with bonuses from intim, and changes to bluff give it more versatility.

Due to the heavy MAD, it would work best as a 36pt build with a few +3 tomes. As is, its a solid survivable build, capable of tanking most raids in the game, with the proper gear, through probably not epics/elite ToD without more work. Its extremely survivable and great for soloing.

Check out the stalwart version posted in that thread as well (13rog/6ftr/1monk) with some shield mastery feats and possibly improved sunder, it could be more focused for heavy tanking.

This is Thanimals Stalwart Hurtlocker variant from that thread, also solid.

In particular, this build's max raid buffed AC is one point better without ever dropping out of PA mode. And if truly max possible AC is needed (very rare I'd hope), this build manages an edge of 3 because Defensive Fighting is available even to those too dumb for CE. Saves suffer, though not by the full 7 it seems like they might, and anyhow seem awfully solid to me. Best-case DPS is worse, but tanking DPS is better. And if you feel oTWF is totally unnecessary, you can tack on 3 more points of Intimidate or UMD with a skill focus feat. Gave up 20 hit points. Some skills better, some worse.

Your completely right about this. For some reason I always think Doge is required for TA.

As a side note I'm glad some ppl have thought the rogue build was a cool idea. I have been bouncing the idea around for quite some time now but I haven't real found that I'm 100% happy with it yet, but the fact the its got some people thinking and talking suits me fine.
