    Default Orien and Lag

As I don't want to derail the other posts on this subject into a flame fest, I figure I'd ask the question here.

To those who are suffering lag/slide show perfomance...are you talking ALL quests and public areas? or is it limited to one or 2?

I know this is going to fly in what others are posting, but I'm just not seeing the unpayable lag you guys are describing (neither is the wife)

We're playing from the UK with around 124ms Latency and 1-2% loss and other than the occasional graphical glitch (teleporting mobs), we're just not seeing problems to the degree you guys seem to be...

In the intrests of full disclosure we're not running raid/epic, we're running a couple of TR's up at the moment and are at lvl6, so it could just be we're not running the quests that are causeing the most problems at the moment.

Whatever is causing the issue I hope it clears sooner rather than later.

    Cheers

In general from what I have seen its pretty much any quest whenever there is some mob to kill. Running in an area in a quest that has been cleaned of trashmobs and such do not lag, as much.
At worst, you get a slideshow, rubberbanding and mobs that "teleport" themselves around the place, hirelings that go AWOL and do not respond.

Outdoor areas are laggy, but not as bad that you have to resort to random buttonmashing in hopes that at least some of your attacks hits something. I pity those who play clerics and try to foresee who needs a heal.

A few days ago, me and a few friends (2 of us TR'd if that matters) did some quests in Lordsmarch Plaza, after swearing a whole lot and having the urge to hit something IRL (Yes, I do get rather frustrated at times), we got to the end fight. And there we froze, and wiped. Even when being a ghost it took ~5 seconds to move one step. Yes, ONE step.

Me and my buddies usually play around 8pm-midnight in Swedish time, that is GMT/UTC + 2h.
Around 11pm till midnight our time is when most people from US come home from work/school and the lag increases quite rapidly.
This has been the case the past month or so, and it didn't really bother me as around midnight, its time for me to go to sleep anyways so I can look like a human at work the day after.

However, with Mabar and the other super-awesome-content-I-cannot-enjoy something has gone very wrong.
It doesn't matter if it is 7pm, 11pm or anything there between, the game will lag so much that it is just frustrating.

From reading the forums, there are people who, like yourself, haven't had any of these issues. Question is, why not?
Not knowing where everybody is from, I have only a theory, all the affected players are from Europe?
And if that is the case, then Turbine should consider to bring us Europeans some servers that are close to us, we pay for the game as well.

Problem is I am playing from Europe...OK so the UK but there is still a rumor going round we might be part of the EU :P

So it can't be just down to geographical location...unless those who are seeing all the problems are themselves in the same country....at which point...what ISP are you all on?

Highly unlikely that every single person complaining is from Sweden though.
And AFAIK among my friends we have several ISP's and Sweden is considered one of the top notch countries when it comes to internet connectivity, bandwidth, stability and availability wise.

Whatever the issue is, it needs to be fixed or Turbine will start losing players.
Maybe then they actually notice that there is something wrong, when the cash flow starts to diminish.

last night. CC on Hard. 6 man grp.

Lagging like crazy. People were falling down because jumps couldn't be completed, and you though you were jumping and you were not and then you walked right over the ledge.

We managed to finish (and even get funk) and it was actually pretty funny because we had a pretty good-natured group, but this lag is getting crazy.

    PLEASE FIX THIS.

Love the game but I am beginning to feel like I did when I played the game where people get to play with the force. People just stopped playing and went the the other game. You know, the one that sounds like you are excited when you say it.

I run a static group once a week on Orien. It's allways been laggy compared to Argo. I'm worried it willl be unplayable tonight. The whole group gets hitching type lag. We're playing from throughout North America.

Default Lag in the middle of the USA

The horrible server lag is not constant, but it is frequent and sometimes (particularly during CC and Mabar events) it is so bad I just have to quit (the server lag is too bad to even logout). Sometimes I can go for several hours with very little server lag. Usually this is when I am soloing. But eventually the nasty server lag always happens.

The events that spawn many instance of one area, like Mabar and CC, seem to make it much worse. It happens in public areas and in dungeon instances both. During the Mabar preview, I could not even walk from the crafting hall to the airship tower in house K. It took about 10 sec for each step. I got about halfway there and decided to quit and not return to the game until after Mabar ends.

I have two different computer setups. Both experience the horrible server lag at times and both also experience times with very little lag.

I was going to log in and play this weekend.

But when I read about the event, I remembered the lag.

I hate lag. If I had to pick one reason why I would not play DDO, it is because of that. I know these events are fun and all, but the lag just kills it for me.

So, I played COD MW2. There was no lag in that game.

I'll come back when the events go.

    Thumbs down No

It is not just europe. My entire guild seems to lag at the same time. We have members from europe and brazil with the bulk of our members in the US. It frustrated me so much that I took a few days off. When I returned, still laggy (even after the event), but not as bad. Still though, not cool.

    Unhappy not just you

yeah totally not just country of origin issues, my guild mates and I are all ove the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. We all experience lag in differnt ways but if we are raiding together or in a quest or event together you can usually bet we are all seeing the massive lag spikes usually with in seconds of each other. Being I play quite a few high level clerics this is a bad thing. I have to over heal in fears of lag spikes and it is costly. So, no pug healing for me . I would have to say that with the amount of people seeing these spikes and me knowing most of my guild mates computer setups I know it is not hardware related at all. As for my ISP i would say 98% of the time it is not due to it unless someone takes out a telephone pole. Which has happened a few times already. So, no real answer to lag spikes. It does seem to of course increase when more people are on, so servers being bogged down is a high probabilty. Better servers needed, maybe. Splitting up servers again, maybe. Who knows at this point it just gets frustrating to be running in a quest when one of the spikes hit and it is game over for you and for no fault of your own.

It's to the point I would not even attempt anything that, under even normal lag conditions, presents any real challenge or that takes a long time to complete. Nothing like spending 30-45 minutes doing Shroud parts 1-3 only to hit part 4 and not be able to cast, swing or even move due to the amount of lag.

Good luck with the Orien lag tonight, Parvo.

I'm beginning to believe that there may be some sub-optimal bit of code that gets unhappy on certain hardware. Unfortunately, my hardware appears to be on the list.

I added the Lag Tag. Please Turbine - fix lag (or hesitation, or hitching, or spells not landing...whatever you want to call it).

I'm looking for correlation between hardware manufacturers, and the lag-haves, and the lag-have nots.

Ran Orien last night and it actually wasn't as bad as I expected. During a two hour session, our group had two lag spikes that had us hitching around and missing shots/buffs etc. The spikes were short. Not acceptable, but not game breaking.

Something happened in a Shroud last night that I thought to be noteworthy.

We were bumping along with a smallish lag spike here (hitching), and a smallish one there.

We got to Arretrikos in Part 5, and he was doing his whole confused "why am I here?" bit. No lag. Then, as soon as we're all raised from death to fight him, crippling lag sets in. People are porting all over the place, etc. The lag seemed to be affecting everyone in the raid, including myself.

On a whim, I Alt-Tabbed out, and then Alt-Tabbed back in. BAM - my lag was gone, and my experience was as smooth as a fluffy kitten. Others were still remarking about how horrible the lag was, but after I Alt-Tabbed out and then back in, I did not see the horrible lag that they were seeing.

When I logged in last night, my first words to my guildies was "Hello", followed by "Is the lag so bad that I need to take a week off and rediscover life outside of DDO?"- expecting that Mabar had returned and the resultant lag was off the charts bad.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Mabar was not going live again for a couple of days and was even more pleasantly surprised to run a Shroud with my ROG/WIZ- her first Shroud!- and it went quite well in terms of acceptable lag and a GREAT PuG.

I'll keep the Alt-Tab trick in mind, though. At this point I'm willing to try anything short of certain pagan rituals in order to reduce lag.
