Default Jumping, it shouldn't be an advantage

As with most MMO's, jumping has it's advantages, to not get hit by melee enemies etc etc.

What I don't understand is you wouldn't have someone in pnp say this,
'I jump while running backwards and cast a spell as I'm in the air'.

Due to the fact that a DM(if it isn't clearly written in the rules, haven't brushed up on them
in some time) wouldn't allow you to manipulate the jump skill, he'd give you checks
to see if you successfully do it.

The suggestion is this, add a balance check for every jump you do whilst running backwards
or to the side, and add a concentration check for every spell you cast mid-air(quicken does
    not negate this effect)

It wouldn't be every time you jump, it would be every time you jump and
cast a spell or every time you jump backwards. I don't think I can
imagine a single quest or raid I've ever done where caster's
had to jump backwards whilst casting, they just choose to
because it's 'easier' than relying on the group to take agro away.

Caster's aren't tanks, and this maneuver is too OP(for the
classes that rely on not getting hit),
they shouldn't be able to solo anything, even with
self heals because of their ability to jump.

As much as I would agree with you on this, in DDO mobs don't really have a difficult time keeping up with the characters that jump. Even those who jump backwards. In PnP, each character takes their own turn and we have things called Attacks of Opportunity.

Also as a DM myself, people moving and/or jumping while casting next to a mob will invoke an attack of opportunity. Which in turn forces them to make a concentration check if they take damage, and depending on the acrobatic maneuver, they may have to make a check or fall on their butts.

In DDO, we don't have these mechanics as it would just make the game much more difficult to play. Not challenging, difficult to control. We also don't need another roll taking place every time we jump. If you really wanted to put this limitation on jumping, then the soft cap should be raised from 40 or just completely removed.

Also, if someone is going to invest points into it, it should be an advantage. They gave up putting the points in other skills, to put it in jump.
