So with the mabar event around the corner, and the trial going on, I noticed that our Ship Training Dummy has a pumpkin head.
Next Step:
Turn our Experience Shrines into Christmas Trees for Festivus!!!!
Thank you.

Sure, if everyone was a follower of Christianity.
We dont have halloween here but because its not specifically religious I dont take offence.
We dont have snow or pirates for that matter either![]()
My demands are simple. Ducks, penguins and tortoises as pets. I'll buy hats and bow-ties for them all.
Actually the Christmas Tree is not any more or less religious then the Jack-o-Lanterns of Halloween, so there should be no offense taken.
Oh yah.. and /Signed.
FYI - The decorating of a conifer tree is not something based on or in Christianity. It was something started by the pagans to celebrate the winter solstice. It was absorb by the romans when they went to conquer the British Isles. When they brought the tradition back to Rome it was then corrupted by religous leaders.
Also for your reference Halloween (well at least the celebration of the harvest) is a religious holiday...pagan!![]()

I like christmas trees. we need more decorative options for the boat anyhow.

Seriously?
You don't mind all the references to other religions, gods, devils in this fantasy setting and yet the mention of christmas tree gets you all worked up?
I think someone needs to take a step back and remember that anyone who plays Dungeons and Dragons is obviously a satanist. On the wide road to hell at any rate!

If there were Christmas trees on airships ... wouldn't the Silver Flame "purge the wicked!" They don't seem like a very tolerant lot. Just sayin'.
halloween isn't about harvest. it's about 'All Hallow's Eve', the night before All Saints Day. It's a religious holiday, though a mighty superstitious one, with traditions mish-moshed from all over the place. Well, saying 'religious' and 'superstitious' in the same sentence might be redundant...

I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just gonna ask 'em where they're going and hook up with 'em later on - Mitch Hedberg

Christ-mas tree. Christ. Christianity. There is the connection. I know that the roots (pun!) go back way further, but the association is there.
A decorated conifer tree is just a tree in drag (think about it)

The appropriateness of a christmas tree depends on the statement it's making.
Example 1
If a cross were to appear on my guild airship, it would make the statement, "We as a guild endorse Christianity". That would be an inappropriate use of guild assets, because the people who worked to get those guild assets (by spending plat and farming Renown) did so with the understanding that we were a secular organization.
Example 2
Of course, there is a representative of The Silver Flame on our airship. He implicitly endorses his religion by the clothes he wears. This is fine: It is understood that his religion is his own, and that the guild as a whole makes no statement concerning the merits of The Silver Flame as a religion. We endorse his services, not his religion.
Example 3
Christmas-- I mean Festivus-- Trees. I'm not even sure what statement a Christmas Tree makes. The tree seems more closely associated with the American consumerism holiday than anything religious or spiritual. And, of course, that's part of the joke being made by Seinfeld-- that the consumerist side of the holiday is NOT religious, and rightly deserves a distinct name from the religious event.
Given this ambiguity, I think Festivus trees are okay only if some explanation or context for their presence is offered. Celebrating non-religious holidays is implicitly accepted by DDO-- they mark the game's birthday, for example. I see no problem with saying, "Hey, we're celebrating a non-religious holiday; these trees represent <insert list of non-religious things>." Sure, we're excluding the Jehovah's Witnesses, but that ship already sailed when DDO celebrated its birthday.
They should look like this, though:

The xmas tree is from a pagan yuletide ritual, totally not christian. Just because the church adopted and coopted a lot of local pagan customs to easy conversion doesn't mean you can't have fun.
And actually, in america anyway, it's become a secular thing, the whole christmas tree and presents, apart from any church thing you go to.
EDIT: and oh, yes, of course, isn't there something in the DDO eula about consigning your immortal soul to the dark six?
