I think they may be jumping and you aren't seeing the animation for some reason.

    Default Flying skills/ spells/ items?

    Hi, I was just wondering,
I have seen a hireling and several characters levitate to platforms to be able to attack mobs, I was wondering if this is a bug or is there is a spell/ skill/ item that actually does this? I had a quick look through the forum and FAQs to no avail, and can't find any on spell lists/ effect lists.

A combination of high jump and feather fall. Feather fall makes you fall slowly. It can be found on some items or cast as a spell.

The ability is called "invisible-ledge walking"

Related abilities include "displaced trap finding", "lag-blindsight" and "rubberbanding".

(yes, rubberbanding is a feature not a bug, helps zergers stop to fight things they missed on their speedy dash :P)

hirelings sometimes get special advantages to compensate for being dumb as rocks.

edit: for example, i understand they get a special reflex save boost vs traps, and they can definitely make some rather suspect jumps that appear to be nothing more than running through the air...
