Default Anyone else Beta testing SWTOR this weekend?

I got my email invite for this weekend's beta for Star Wars: The Old Republic and was wondering if anyone else will be joining me?

Nope, didn't get mine yet. I'm not too worried. I think if I do get selected to test it, I will use it as a preview and make my determination on the game.

    nope not me. no invite.
mind you i'm not expecting one either due to when i submitted my application way back, i only had a really really bad pc (couldnt even play wow if i had wanted to on it, heh).
That said, i'm not to cut up either as the more i see of it the more uneasy i feel. I'm not gonna be rushing to get it when its released, but rather wait a few months first. At least by then it'll be playable...i hope

im not in the weekend beta, but i am in the long term beta they also have running right now. I have to say the game is going to be amazing. The blend of combat, story telling, and details had me hooked from the start.

Its not your standard MMO combat either, more active combat than almost every other mmo out there.

Looks like the big push for server load will be happening. I received acceptance for their last beta testing weekend they will have in the next couple weeks. Seems like the majority of users received this invitation. Also they gave a bunch of beta test codes to a bunch of websites to give them away. I'll at least get to see the character creation in the 3 days of play.

I really don't like the direction DDO is going now, so this is going to be an easy transition come 12-20

I'll be in the final beta weekend, which will have the most recent build and the closest build to what they will have at launch.

Did they change the entire combat system?
Because if not, then I'm not interested.

    Press 1, press 1, press 1, press 2, press 1, press 1, wait for cooldown on 2, press 2, press 3, press 1, press 1....
Facing doesn't matter. You can literally swing/fire your weapon in the opposite direction of your enemy and still hit. Player mobility doesn't matter. Laser blasts literally curve to track the target. Environment doesn't matter, you think you have cover? Unless you're a Scoundrel and are actively taking cover, then you'll still be hit.

It's lame, and I'm not interested. It will start off well because of the name, but anyone that actually likes DDO for the combat will not stay there.
    Period.

Ever play a caster in DDO? Sounds quite familiar, using different spells, a select few over and over, waiting for cooldown on another. Sure, there is no auto-attack in TOR, but that's because they didn't just want you swinging the same attack all of the time. However, you can do that as you have mentioned 'press 1, press 1, press 1...' Doing the same attack over and over isn't going to get you far in a game that is balanced around 4 person parties. Even on my melees in DDO, I do use other attacks. I have action boosts, stunning blow, trip, clickies (for haste/rage), sunder, intimidate, bluff... it's pretty much the same thing.

Facing does matter now. If someone runs behind a pillar, they cannot be hit. You do need line of sight for any ability. Smugglers and Imperial Agents have a cover system that they can deploy out in the open. They still suggest using the natural landscape cover for the other classes.

Yes the DDO combat. Let's take a look at it lately. Cast a spell, wait for it to fire 6 seconds later. Wait on a cooldown to cast it again. Even for a time melee was bugged and wasn't registering the first hit. Content that comes out every couple of months incomplete and full of bugs. That's not mentioning the increasing amount of threads of people complaining about the lag, which is wiping whole raids, not just a select few who have a slow internet. So what is there to like about the DDO combat right now? Until they fix a LOT in this game, it will definitely lose a lot of people to Guild Wars 2 and TOR, and even quite possibly later next year FFXIV.

Played in the Weekend Event and saw neither of these issues. Lasers were zooming past me as I ran around. Getting behind cover (pillars, walls, whatever) stopped lasers from hitting you. It did seem that less then (my guess) 75% cover was pretty much useless when I was attacking an NPC. But when I ran behind stuff, I always ran for the biggest obstacle around so couldn't say if it worked both ways.

Overall, I had a lot of fun. Always enjoyed the Star Wars games. And this has a really good storyline going for it.

It'll be a nice change of pace as I'm getting burnt out on DDO as of late.

I am quite burned out on DDO too. Don't like the excessive lag failing raids. Sure it's about 50% of the time, but that's too much for me. Also tired of the new packs coming out half-complete, like missing named items, missing ways to upgrade old loot to their new stats...

Good news though: The NDA has been lifted on TOR. Their forums are buzzing mad with people discussing the game. Next weekend I should be testing. Also upgrading my 4 year old computer to be with the standards of today just for TOR.
