Default Transferring DDO to a new Computer

I've copied the entire DDO file in program files along with everything in the MyDocuments/settings files (and the launcher) to a portable drive and I intend to copy them onto my new computer.

My question is will this work? I am hoping that activating the launcher will simply do a check and replace anything I might have missed (i.e. registry files etc) rather than me having to redownload the entire thing (after the discs, I have the four disc set that we bought years ago).

If anyone knows anything about this or has done this I would appreciate any info you have.

    Thanks

That is a bad idea for any program that isn't specifically portable.

The only thing you need to copy, if you have them, are your custom skins in your documents directory (and any other custom things you may have installed that I'm unaware of).

If you've kept the installation files you downloaded via Pando-whatever downloader, you can reinstall from that without downloading again.

If not, re-download and keep the download for future installs. I'd recommend using an uninstaller to install Pando so you can fully wipe it afterwards.

I've done this many times. Never had any issues. Just be sure you link to the right executable: TurbineInvoker for Vista/7; and TurbineLauncher for XP.

Due to .dat internal fragmentation, which a file-level defrag can't touch, it can be very helpful to re-install every few updates, however, if you are not running on an SSD. I've seen installs that took minutes (literally) to zone go down to 20 seconds by re-installing.

Interesting thought; is there anything that explains this?
