There are already a lot of 16/2/2 splits. Most classes don't get much from going from 14 to 16, so being able to pick up a bit more from another front loaded class just gives them even more from multiclassing.

Would it be hatefully overpowering? Probably not.
Is it worth adding to the game considering the small potential downside and the extremely limited upside (not even counting additional bugs added in the process)? Probably not.
Bard? 16 for Otto's Irresistable is a huge bump there. If you are only going 14 bard, it is probably better to go a 6 splash PRE then a bunch of multiclasses.

14 Fighter / Ranger? 12 fighter/ranger and a 12/6/2 is almost assuredly better than any 12/2/2/2.

Again, if anyone can find a definitive example that is game-breaking, then I would consider the balance issue relevant. As it is, /still waiting, still thinking the "fun factor" of customized builds makes this a reasonable suggestion.



[Sidenote: Dev time is an argument that can be thrown at ANY suggestion as a reason not to do it. Seeing as how we generally have no idea how easy or hard a certain change would be, however, it is a meaningless argument for us to speculate on how easy/hard any change would be.]
