Default What are the best epic CC items?

I was originally going to make CC items appropriate to my level, but now that I've reached level 16, I'm thinking it would be smarter just to make level 20 gear. After all, I figure I will spend a lot more time at level 20 than levels 16 to 19. And I'm patient enough to wait.

Assuming I can make items above my level (and I believe I can), the question then becomes what to make. Obviously one answer is "make what you like", but part of my problem is that being new, I don't have a good handle on what's "out there" in terms of other epic gear.

I know that the CC gear is derided as "Walmart epics" by more experienced players, but it looks pretty good to this newbie. What I'm specifically wondering is if any of the CC epics are considered competitive with "real" epics for their slots, especially items that are very hard to acquire. For example, I saw someone mentioned that the plate armor was supposed to be good.. I think.

    FTR, I'm a mostly-soloing mostly-cleric.

    Thanks.

Screw the Walmart epics the best CC item imo is the Greater Stalwart Trinket. ML 4 +10 HP, 10% exceptional fort and proccing stoneskin. If you ever plan on TRing the character (now that these things are BTC sadly), then you are going to want one of these items. Heck, if you have nothing else to put in your trinket slot this is a good item, but being able to run around at level 4 virtually immune to damage makes this one my favorite.

Another contender that people will probably mention is the Epic Spyhunter Glass, easy to get +2 exc int for your wizard, but also True Seeing for anyone who melees, and topped off with a UMD +3 that stacks with other normal sources of UMD (you have to fully upgrade). That one I think is less in your favor based on the character. I would say that yes, you're right the plate armor is pretty nice to have if you have nothing else and don't have evasion. But uhm....how much TP are you willing to plop down on an armor kit, because dyam...you'll want one.

My Fvs is looking forward to a Epic Ornamented Dagger. Epic Cavalry Plate is always good for soloing too.

The fully upgraded cove plate is, imo, the best armor in the game for a non-monk-splashed soloing cleric. Demonic shield is an extremely powerful effect, sort of the Torc of hitpoints. The 5 DR is great, and so are the 5 resist and +40 HP.

Every caster should get a Tier I ornamented dagger, if just for the 3 clicks of free maximize. Depending on whether you already have better gear, you may or may not want to bother upgrading it.

You may find some of the trinkets useful to wear, but they can't compete with Litany of the Dead unless you are a melee cleric.

Finally, the upgraded spyglass and ring will help you boost your UMD if you put points into that skill.

Thanks for the replies so far! Good point about the trinket.

If I read correctly I have to make one of those AND then turn it in to get the tier 3 armor? So I make two? Can I make two?

    Any other thoughts appreciated.

As far as I know the only exclusive cove item is the dagger, so you can make as many as you want of the others.

You can make as many as you want of each item while supplies last. With the exception of the dagger. I totally forgot about the dagger, its hella nice, got it on all my casters. When it was first released you could make as many of those as you wanted and I had stacks of them. Sadly, Turbine realized their error on giving people unlimited free maximizes and made those exclusive now.

But having just one is still great and if you make one thing, I'd probably make that for your cleric. If you make two then the armor given your character. If you make more, seriously consider the stalwart if you ever plan to TR or don't yet have a litany/anything nice there.

Actually, I plan *only* to TR. I don't want multiple characters. So that trinket looks like a must.

The free maximize is indeed awesome. But I think that applies to all tiers of the level 20 dagger, correct?

Would I be better off upgrading the dagger to tier 3 or just keeping it at tier 1 for the start and working on the armor (which does look amazing)?

    Thank you.

The main epic items that I use are the Ring, the Gloves and the Spyglass. IMHO, only the Spyglass is worth grinding for if the new items are going to be BTC (link). Hats will always be fun to make and the ML:4 trinkets can still see use at level 20.
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

Do you really need Superior Potency VII? If not, tier 1 will do just fine.

It does seem I am better off getting all the items I want in at least tier 1 before upgrading. There is some very good stuff there.

Do people continue to wear the hats after CC? I'd assume there are better items for that slot.

Items you will regret making (upgrade all to T3):
    Gloves
    Dagger
    Ring
    Douglass

You will kick yourself if you don't make some trinkets and upgrade them.

Don't forget to make a pirate hat. +40 hps at lvl 9 is very nice.

In summary, make and upgrade fully: dagger, spyglass, ring, gloves, trinkets, pirate hat. Or you could just do what I did and make and fully upgrade all of the items.

Grabbing a Lesser Cunning Trinket is nice. There is 50 bonus stacking spellpoints.

It is only the level 20 dagger (all tiers). I like the tier 3 for the aug slot and the Sup Pot VII but tier 1 is almost as good for the free maximize. I'd probably go t1 dagger, t3 armor and then swing back and finish the dagger.

With items being BTC now the only ones i'll consider making are as follows

+10% fortification ml : 4 trinket * prob mostly on my melee classes for the odd time i actually worry about warchanter
spyglass trinket fully upgraded * will make this on all of my toons, each and every single one
level 20 dagger fully upgraded * will make on my wiz / sorc / fvs
level 16 dagger fully upgraded * will make on my wizard for TRing and on my sorc for the slot consolidation

honestly now that things are BTC this event is a waste of time compared to what it was, and i'll be doing my damnedest to get out asap.

Most of those mentioned already are the best, but even the less clearly awesome Cove epics can be very nice on the right build. For instance, the Duelist Leathers and the Swashbuckler make for one of the best evasion tank Armor+Shield combos, assuming that you can get full benefit from the Leather's max dex bonus.

For a cleric, tier 2 of the dagger (for arcane lore). The epic calvary plate is pretty good also.

The Trinkets are nice. I like the shocking blow for leveling up my TR. The maul was nice for its plus 10 stunning I found. The gloves of course and the hats are nice.

I tend to get the most use out of my haggle hat (6 charisma 15 haggle) and the epic spyglass with luck slotted (5 UMD is nice)

LMAO, yeah, I'm sure he's got a litany sitting around. It probably takes <1% of the time to make one of those trinkets than a litany. For someone with no notable progress on either it's a pretty unbalanced comparison.

I will probably make the shield for my caster, +9 to saves and decent stats.
